After opening to critical acclaim, My Name is Asher Lev, the hit play written by Aaron Posner and adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok (The Chosen) at The Westside Theatre (407 W. 43rd Street) has extended its run for the third time, through September 1, 2013. Last night, The Alley Theatre hosted the press opening night of Bernard Pomerance's well-known 1977 tragic drama THE ELEPHANT MAN. The nearly 100-minute one act production is a fascinating look at the life of Joseph 'John' Carey Merrick, who began developing severe bone and skin abnormalities by age two. The play takes place from 1884 to 1890, focusing primarily on the parts of Joseph Merrick's life when he was acquainted with and studied by Dr. Frederick Treves, a surgeon in London. Throughout Joseph Merrick's life these abnormalities worsened, significantly increasing the physical strain these deformities subjected his body to. Joseph Merrick passed on April 11, 1890, at the age of 27. The official cause of death is asphyxia.

Westport Country Playhouse's five-play 2013 season will open with A.R. Gurney's 'The Dining Room,' a witty and heartfelt story of the American family and its vanishing traditions, directed by Mark Lamos, April 30 - May 18. This year the historic Connecticut theater celebrates its 83rd season.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS, described as the provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel about spiritual warfare from a demon's point of view, will return to Minneapolis for three performances only, after a successful engagement in May 2011. The production will run at the Pantages Theatre, 710 Hennepin Avenue, on Friday, May 10 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Signature Theatre has announced an additional four-week extension for the world premiere of OLD HATS, created and performed by Tony Award winners Bill Irwin and David Shiner, with music by and featuring Nellie McKay, and directed by Tina Landau. This is the fourth extension for the production, which will now play through Sunday, June 9. The production opened on Monday, March 4 on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). Called 'enthralling and luminous' by The New York Times, The Elephant Man, directed by Gregory Boyd, runs April 12 through May 5, 2013 on the Hubbard Stage.

The cast of My Name is Asher Lev, Ari Brand, Mark Nelson, Ilana Levine, Naama Potok, and Jonathan Raviv come to 92YTribeca on Thursday, March 28 from 12-1pm for a conversation about this highly-praised new play based on the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok (author of The Chosen). The cast will also perform a few of their favorite excerpts from the show.

Heralded playwright Horton Foote, born March 14, 1916 would be 97 years old today. His play The Trip to Bountiful starts previews on Broadway March 30, 2013 and official opens April 23, 2013 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 W 43rd St) starring Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding, Jr, Vanessa Williams, Condola Rashad and Tom Wopat. Foote passed away on March 4, 2009.
