Profiles in History Announces New Auction, Featuring Famous Scientists

Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, has announced that the personal correspondence, manuscripts and first edition books from the brilliant scientists that shaped and formed our understanding of the universe will be included in their December 18th auction, The Property of a Distinguished American Private Collector. Part I of The Property of a Distinguished American Private Collector will include 300 of the most important items in the collection. The entire collection has over 3,000 items and will be sold over the next two years.

Presented by The Private Theatre (John Gould Rubin, Artistic Director; Lucy DiRosa, Executive Director) and Barbara Ligeti, the world premiere of the new solo show, Turning Page, written and performed by Angelica Page (Gore Vidal's The Best Man) with direction by Tony Award® nominee Wilson Milam (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), will end its limited engagement this Sunday, October 28, 2012 at The Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street) where performances began October 11, 2012.

Salamander Starts Over, winner of the Best Solo Show at FringeNYC, has been extended to the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival's Encore Series. Salamander Starts Over, played to sold out houses during the August run and received rave reviews. Performances begin tonight, September 7th at The SoHo Playhouse.

PEER GYNT PROJECT Brings Neil Hancock to Nationaltheatret's International Ibsen Festival, Now thru 9/8

THE PEER GYNT PROJECT is a U.S./U.K./Norway multi-media theater collaboration conceived by Caroline von Kuhn and co-created by Jennifer Gibbs, John Gould Rubin and Ms. von Kuhn, Produced by Robyn Hussa and starring Neil Hancock - a wheelchair-using actor who has Cerebral Palsy. The company is re-telling the epic story of Ibsen's Peer Gynt by injecting accounts of own contemporary struggles into the narrative.

The team that brought you 2010's heralded site-specific production of Hedda Gabler will present a multi-media version of Strindberg's Playing with Fire, directed by John Gould Rubin, co-conceived by Shane Bly Killoran and adapted by Royston Coppenger, beginning tonight, August 17 at an exclusive location at 189 Chrystie Street. The Private Theatre's fiery production will run through Friday, August 24.

The Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble presents the West Coast premiere of ELMINA'S KITCHEN, written by award-winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah, directed by Gregg T. Daniel. This gut-wrenching drama is set in the notorious "Murder Mile" section of London's East End. ELMINA'S KITCHEN examines the bitter clash of values between three generations of black men and its effect on their family and community. The play runs tonight, August 11 through September 9.
