The Ring Theatre at University of Miami Presents Developmental Reading of DEVOTION

The Theatre Arts Department of the University of Miami, Stephen DI Benedetto, Chairman, and Michael Bush, Artistic Director of the University's Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, announce a developmental reading of the new musical Devotion, book, music and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick, directed by Maggie Burrows, featuring students from the University's BFA musical theatre program. This reading has been made possible by a grant for the development of new musical works by the Johnny Mercer Foundation. The reading rehearsals start January 20, 2018 with a free public presentation on January 25, 2018.

Works by Paula Vogel, Alex Brightman and More Set for 2017 Johnny Mercer Writers Colony at Goodspeed

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

MIDNIGHT AT THE NEVER GET Extends at Don't Tell Mama

The premiere staging of the new musical MIDNIGHT AT THE NEVER GET, which opens this week at Manhattan cabaret institution Don't Tell Mama, has announced that it will extend. A fifth performance will be added to the limited run due to popular demand. The show, which stars Sam Bolen and Mark Sonnenblick, was written by Sonnenblick, and directed by Don't Tell Mama's Associate Director of Programming Max Friedman.

Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School to Present Two Youth Concerts This Winter

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensembles (RIPYWE) presents their first full concert of the season Tuesday, January 26 at 7:15 pm at Sapinsley Hall, Rhode Island College. The concert will include RIPYWE Senior Division, under the direction of Eric Hewitt, and RIPYWE Junior Division, under the direction of Dr. David Neves. RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School Announces Concerto & Aria Competition Co-Winners

On Saturday, November 14th, five finalists in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Concerto & Aria Competition performed at the Carter Center for Music Education & Performance with Music Director Larry Rachleff and Resident Conductor Francisco Noya serving as adjudicators. Finalists were selected from an initial round of applicants who submitted recorded performances. Participants included current students from the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School performing at a very high level.

Washington National Opera Announces Full Schedule for American Opera Initiative

WASHINGTON)—Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced details for the fourth season of the American Opera Initiative, its comprehensive commissioning program that brings contemporary American stories to the stage while fostering the talents of rising American composers and librettists. Three pairings of new opera composers and librettists—Christopher Weiss and John de los Santos, David Clay Mettens and Joshua McGuire, and Sarah Hutchings and Mark Sonnenblick—will premiere new one-act operas, each based on a contemporary American story, in a semi-staged concert performance on December 2, 2015 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Composer Luna Pearl Woolf and librettist Caitlin Vincent, an alumnus of the program's second season, will present their new hour-long work Better Gods—based on the life of Queen Lili'uokalani, the last monarch of Hawaii—on January 8 and 9, 2016 in the Terrace Theater.

The Houston Grand Opera Announces The 7 New Members for the 2015–16 HGO Studio Artists

After a worldwide search, Houston Grand Opera has chosen seven new members for the 2015–16 HGO Studioprogram. One of the most respected and highly competitive young artist programs in the world, the HGO Studio provides comprehensivecareer development to young singers, pianist/coaches, and conductors who have demonstrated potential to make major contributions to thefield of opera. The HGO Studio received applications from 500 artists; of those, about 275 were heard in Houston, New York, Philadelphia,Cincinnati, and San Francisco. For singers, the audition process culminates in HGO's annual Eleanor McCollum Competition Concert of Arias, held this year on February 5.

Kasie Gasparini, Will Roland and More to Star in WASTED TUNES at Don't Tell Mama, 9/20

'Wasted Tunes' is an original blast of theatrical rock'n'roll by composer/lyricist Mark Sonnenblick. Audiences can expect an evening of intoxicated anthems, hammered hymns, stoned showtunes, and blitzed ballads, none of which are from any comprehensible piece of theater and most of which will be performed in public for the first time. Brennan Caldwell (NBC's "The Sing-Off"), Kasie Gasparini (Mama Mia Las Vegas), Will Roland (The Black Suits), Emily Wexler, and Sonnenblick himself will star in the revue, which will be directed by Don't Tell Mama's Associate Director of Programming, Max Friedman.

National Parenting Expert Dr. John Duffy Comments on the Use of Tracking Devices in Teen Drivers' Cars

Dr. John Duffy was recently featured in an article by TIME magazine on the use of devices in cars designed to inform teen drivers, and their parents, when the driver makes mistakes. as TIME states, 'These technologies can now alert parents when their kids exceed their parents' pre-programmed speed limit, for example, or brake or accelerate suddenly, either of which could indicate that the teen is in trouble. But how effective are these black boxes in preventing crashes? Or are they yet another example of intrusive, even counter-productive parenting?'
