Broadway's Cort Theatre Will Be Renamed After James Earl Jones

The Shubert Organization, Inc., will rename the 110-year-old Cort Theatre to the James Earl Jones Theatre, in recognition of Mr. Jones’s lifetime  of immense contributions to Broadway and the entire artistic community.

The Cort Theatre is getting a facelift. The Shubert Organization is moving forward with a major restoration and expansion project at the Cort. In addition to historic refurbishments to the interior and rehabilitation of the NYC historic landmark’s façade, the venue will be getting a much-needed 35-foot-wide expansion on its western side.

Shubert Organization Reveals Plans for Cort Theatre Renovations

The St. James and Helen Hayes Theatres might not be the only Broadway houses getting an update. According to Forbes, the Cort Theatre, currently home to M. Butterfly, might also get some renovations in the hopes that the theatre will be able to house larger productions.
