Aspire Community Theatre Mounts CHILDREN OF EDEN
by Julie Musbach
- Mar 30, 2018
The final production in Aspire Community Theatre's 2017-2018 season is Children of Eden. From musical theatre. Great, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell) and John Caird (Daddy Long Legs, Jane Eyre), comes a joyous and inspirational musical about parents, children and faith…not to mention centuries of unresolved family business. A beautifully crafted score comes to life with a coast of storytellers who share the sweeping story based on the book of Genesis. Adam, Eve, Noah and the Father who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet - but inspiring- message: "The hardest part of live…is letting go."

BWW Review: Love Comes as a Surprise in DADDY LONG LEGS
by Ellen Dostal
- Feb 28, 2018
It can be a wonderful adventure to watch two people falling in love, particularly when they themselves don't realize it's happening. When the adventure takes place on stage - as in John Caird and Paul Gordon's musical two-hander DADDY LONG LEGS - the audience has an advantage because they get to see the relationship develop from both points of view. The misunderstandings are more poignant, the coincidences even more delightful. By the time it becomes apparent to the couple in question, we've already fallen in love with them and are cheering them on to their eventual conclusion. Add music and the whole emotional journey becomes a romantic dream come true no fairy tale could tell better.

BWW Review: CANDIDE at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
by Maria Nockin
- Jan 29, 2018
On January 27, 2018, Los Angeles Opera presented the Bernstein work at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion with a cast that included Emmy-winning television star Kelsey Grammer. He is best remembered for his two-decade-long portrayal of psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane on the situation comedies Cheers, Wings, and Frasier. As Voltaire and Pangloss, Grammer had a huge speaking role that he acquitted with a commanding personality and considerable wit. Surprisingly, he sang quite well, too.
