Photo Flash: Main Street Theater Presents DADDY LONG LEGS

Main Street Theater presents the Regional Premiere of Daddy Long Legs based on the classic novel by Jean Webster and featuring music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated composer/lyricist, Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre), and Tony-winning librettist/director, John Caird (Les Misérables). "This show has the same romantic appeal that draws me to stories like Little Women and Anne of Green Gables as well as romantic period pieces like Downton Abbey and The Forsythe Saga," shares director Andrew Ruthven. "This love story is certainly a 'rags to riches' tale, but the heart of Daddy Long Legs is a young woman coming into her own. The show is punctuated by Jean Webster's very strong feminist stance. She pulls no punches in Jerusha's beliefs in votes for women, equality of the sexes, and the battle of sexes."

Daddy Long Legs runs through June 17 at MST - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd. Performances are Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3pm. This two-person musical is the "rags-to-riches" love story of a bright, strong young woman, Jerusha Abbott, and her mysterious benefactor who sends her to college to become a writer. Required to write him a letter once a month, she is never to know the benefactor's identity - so she invents one for him: Daddy Long Legs.

Andrew Ruthven directs the production. Debbie Wylie is Musical Director. The cast is Shanae'a Moore as Jerusha Abbott and Matt Harris Andersen as Jervis Pendleton.

The production design team and crew include Liz Freese (Set Design), J. Mitchell Cronin (Lighting Design), Macy Lyne (Costume Design), Yezminne Zepeda (Sound Design), and Rodney Walsworth (Properties Design). Lauren S. Evans is the production stage manager.

Main Street Theater provides theater experiences for all ages. Founded in 1975, our MainStage produces professional, intimate, literary plays for adults and operates under an Actors' Equity Association union contract; our Theater for Youth produces professional, engaging productions based on children's literature for families and school groups, both in-house and on tour around Texas; and we offer Education and Outreach programs on-site and at satellite locations around the Greater Houston area for youth aged 4 - high school.
