Claire Satin, Internationally Acclaimed Artist Brings Sculptural Works To Pompano Beach

Bailey Contemporary Arts (BaCA) is proud to present Large Scale Constructions by Claire Satin, featuring an overview of the internationally acclaimed artist's large sculptural works primarily from the 1980's and 1990's. Satin has had an extensive exhibition and collections history in the U.S. and Europe and is known for her use of a vast range of different materials, mediums and environments to create notion-challenging artwork. The exhibition will be on view from January 3 - February 26, 2020. The free opening reception is Friday, January 3 from 6pm-10pm during Old Town Untapped. IF THE DANCER DANCES invites viewers into the intimate world of the dance studio. Stephen Petronio, one of today's leading dance-makers, is determined to help his dancers breathe new life into RainForest (1968), an iconic work by the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham. With help from three members of the former Cunningham company, the film tracks Petronio's dancers as they strive to re-stage this great work, revealing what it takes to keep a dance – and a legacy – alive. Timed to coincide with Cunningham's centennial, IF THE DANCER DANCES is the first documentary on the subject of Cunningham's work since his passing in 2009.
Chamber Music Society Announces November Schedule

During its 50th anniversary season of milestones, CMS begins November with the world premiere of John Corigliano's The Food of Love for Oboe and Celloa?"one of several trailblazing composers highlighted in this concert, including John Cage, Elliott Carter, and Ruth Crawford Seegera?"whose works from the past century have set the stage for composers today (Nov. 7). The piece was commissioned by Corigliano's friends Michèle and Larry Corash for their 50th wedding anniversary. The same day, a free master class will be given by soprano Tony Arnold, who performs in Berg's Lyric Suite for String Quartet the following night, with the Schumann Quartet. The work's hidden musical and numerical codes, and a vocal part, revealed Berg's secret love affair with a married woman (Nov. 8).
The Kennedy Center Presents A Celebration Of Merce Cunningham At 100

Opening the contemporary dance season, the Kennedy Center joins the global centennial celebration of one of the most important figures in modern dance, icon Merce Cunningham. Featuring multiple events exploring the Cunningham legacy, the centerpiece of the celebration is performances of Compagnie Centre National de Danse Contemporaine-Angers (CNDC-Angers) on the mainstage of the Eisenhower Theater, from October 3-5. The company is led by Robert Swinston, who danced for Cunningham and worked side-by-side with him for over 30 years, and who now works to keep Cunningham's brilliant flame alive with dancers of today.
