The exhibition will be on view from February 10 through June 5, 2016.
In this tangled tale of friendship, romance and revenge, a merchant borrows money to help his friend woo a rich heiress. Shylock, a Jewish moneylender, agrees to loan the money with one caveat: the merchant must pay the loan back in full, or else he will be forced to surrender a pound of his own flesh. When the merchant is unexpectedly bankrupted, who will save the day when Shylock comes, knife in hand, to claim his pound of flesh? Funny, horrifying, charming and unsettling, The Merchant of Venice has remained one of Shakespeare's most popular -and controversial - plays for more than four centuries. The Classic Theatre production features some of South Texas' premiere talent, including Classic Theatre founding member Allan S. Ross as Shylock.

Since December 28th was my birthday I looked around for something interesting to write about. And I did. But it happened on December 27, the same day Show Boat opened. But Show Boat opened in 1927 and this one in 1944. It was a musical titled Sing Out Sweet Land. What? Yes, I know that no one remembers it, let alone hearing about it), but after looking at some very impressive credits I saw that Charles Weidman had choreographed the production.
When you take on an iconoclastic production such as Jonathan Larson's RENT, you either have a whole lot of talent in your back pocket, or you are just plain ludicrous. Fortunately for Shadowbox Live, it was a case of the former that resulted in a fantastic opportunity to see this incredible story about Bohemians in Alphabet City, NYC struggling with life, love and AIDS, brought to life in local form.
