Premiere Stages At Kean University To Combat Pandemic With The Power Of The Pen

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has announced a new initiative a?" The Premiere Senior Endeavor Awards- a new playwriting competition for New Jersey based writers that offers cash awards and benefits in three categories. The project will be part of the 2020 Premiere Play Festival- Premiere Stages' acclaimed new play development program that provides readings, workshops and full productions to regional playwrights as part of each season.

Premiere Stages Announces 2020 Bauer Boucher Award Winners

 Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has expanded the Bauer Boucher Award to offer two awards a?" one to a budding student playwright and one to an emerging alumni playwright. The expansion of the award is made possible as part of a major five-year sustaining gift from longtime Premiere Stages donors W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher. In addition to a cash prize of $1000 or $2000, the 2020 winners also received a professional public reading of their play as performed by professional equity actors, followed by a Q & A with the playwright, audience, and the producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, John J. Wooten, who directed both readings.

Premiere Stages To Present New Jersey Premiere Of Rohina Malik's Yasmina's NECKLACE

Premiere Stages will present the New Jersey premiere of Rohina Malik's Joseph Jefferson Award-nominated play Yasmina's Necklace at Kean University in Union September 5-22. Previously presented at the 16th Street Theater and Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Yasmina's Necklace tells the story of Abdul Samee. Abdul's father is Iraqi and mother is Puerto Rican - but if you ask him, he'll say he's Italian.

Premiere Stages at Kean University will present Tammy Ryan's The Wake July 11-28 in Kean University's Bauer Boucher Theatre Center (Vaughn Eames Hall, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.). Recently selected from 659 submissions as the winner of the 2019 Premiere Play Festival, The Wake will feature actors James Gushue, Wayne Maugans, Kathy McCafferty and Kelley Rae O'Donnell. John J. Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, directs.

Premiere Stages At Kean University Announces 2019 Premiere Play Festival Finalists

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2019 Premiere Play Festival. Now in its 15th year, the Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. This year's finalists were selected from a record 659 submissions, a 15% increase from the previous record set in 2018.

Premiere Stages At Kean University Announces 2019 Bauer Boucher Award Winner

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has named alumnus Tariq Hamami '06 as the winner of the 2019 Bauer Boucher Playwriting Award. The Award recently increased from $250 to $2,000 as part of a major five-year sustaining gift from longtime donors W. John Bauer and Nancy Boucher. In addition to the cash prize, Mr. Hamami also received two professional public readings of his play at Kean University in Union and Lantern Hill Retirement Community in New Providence. Based on a true story, the play, Smail, dramatizes one man's imprisonment and persecution during the Algerian Civil War.

The Shakespeare Theatre Of New Jersey Presents THE WINTER'S TALE

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's concludes its 56th season with its sixth and final Main Stage production, The Winter's Tale. Last seen at The Shakespeare Theatre in 2008, Artistic Director Bonnie J. Monte directs this production of Shakespeare's tragicomedic romance. Veteran company members Jacqueline Antaramian, Jon Barker, Erin Partin, John Keabler, Raphael Nash Thompson, Seamus Mulcahy, Patrick Toon, and Ames Adamson are among a cast of 20 actors. Performances begin December 5. Patrons can purchase tickets at The F.M. Originally commissioned over a two-year cycle through Premiere's Liberty Live Commission, Black Tom Island will feature actors Damian Buzzerio, Mason Hensley, Jenna Krasowski and Bart Shatto. Originally commissioned over a two-year cycle through the NJPAC Stage Exchange and now receiving its first professional production, Brick City will feature actors Rafael Benoit, Jacqueline Correa, Madison Ferris and Chris Grant. Jessi D. Hill, who helmed this season's workshop of Deneen Reynold-Knott's Baton, directs.

Premiere Stages at Kean University will present Craig Garcia's Linger July 12-29 in Kean University's Bauer Boucher Theatre Center (Vaughn Eames Hall, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.). Recently selected from over 570 submissions as the winner of the 2018 Premiere Play Festival, Linger will feature actors Will Ehren, Michael Frederic, Robby Haltiwanger, Jonathan C. Kaplan, Sarah Kathryn Makl and Danielle Skraastad. John J. Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, will direct.

Submissions Now Open For The Premiere Stages 2019/2020 Liberty Live Commission

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre in residence at Kean University, is now accepting submissions for the 2019/2020 Liberty Live Commission, a biennial commissioning program for New Jersey playwrights in partnership with Kean's Liberty Hall Museum. Now in its fourth incarnation, Liberty Live culminates with a professional Equity production of a new play that celebrates New Jersey history. Past winners include Talking to Westfield by E.M. Lewis (2012), At Liberty Hall by James Christy (2013/2014), My Lord, What a Night by Deborah Brevoort (2015/2016) and Black Tom Island by Martin Casella (2017/2018), which will be fully produced this October.

Premiere Stages At Kean University Announces 2018 Season

Premiere Stages at Kean University has announced the winner of the 2018 Premiere Play Festival, its annual competition for unproduced scripts written by playwrights affiliated with the greater metropolitan area. The theatre has named Linger by Glen Ridge resident Craig Garcia this year's winner, and will present the play's first professional production this summer as part of the theatre's 14th season in residence at Kean University. The season, which runs June-October, will also feature full productions of Brick City by Ridgewood resident Nicole Pandolfo and Black Tom Island by Jersey City resident Martin Casella, as well as a developmental workshop of this year's runner-up for the Premiere Play Festival, Baton by Brooklyn resident Deneen Reynolds-Knott. 

Premiere Stages At Kean University To Receive Major Naming Gift From W. John Bauer And Nancy Boucher

Kean University announced today that Dr. W. John Bauer, Professor Emeritus, and his sister Nancy Boucher will make a major gift to the University on behalf of Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean. The gift will enable Premiere Stages and the Kean University Theatre Conservatory to refurbish the lobby and upgrade the entrance to their primary producing venues, the Zella Fry and Murphy Dunn Theatres housed in Vaughn Eames Hall. It will also provide support to Premiere's nationally recognized Play Festival and new play development programs. The University will commemorate the gift by officially designating the new entrance "The Bauer-Boucher Theatre Center."
