The Arts Educational Schools London, part of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, last night staged EVITA, in the presence of Andrew Lloyd Webber himself, as part of the opening of their theatre. Webber is the school's most generous patron, funding the school's £3.5 million refurbishment and is president of the school.

There was plenty of stardust scattered about in the foyer at the opening of the new, magnificently appointed Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Theatre at Chiswick's Arts Educational Schools, Chiswick. There's TV's Claire Balding. And there's multi-award winning actor Robert Lindsay. And there's theatrical grandee Trevor Nunn. And, of course, the Lord himself. But if we began the evening star-spotting amongst the already famous, we finished it spotting those who will be famous.

James Rocco (Vice President Programming and Producing Artistic Director of Ordway Center for the Performing Arts) is being recognized for his 25 Years of Dedication to the theatre at 3:30 p.m. on September 24, 2013 at the Times Square Visitor Center. The Broadway League and Coalition of Broadway Unions will be inducting James as well as Rob Ashford, Karen Azenberg, Jeff Calhoun, Sheldon Epps, Joey McKneely, Gregory Mosher and Susan Stroman into BROADWAY SALUTES.

The producers of WEST SIDE STORY, playing at Sadler's Wells until 22 September before a nationwide tour, have partnered with the youth charity Leap Confronting Conflict, to run a workshop together for young Londoners exploring the musical's gang and race related conflict issues. Following the success of the workshop, there are now plans to roll out further outreach workshops whilst the musical tours the country during the coming year.

When the original West Side Story opened on Broadway in 1957, it changed in many ways the concept of what constitutes a Broadway musical. Its creative team-writer Arthur Laurents, director Jerome Robbins, composer Leonard Bernstein, and lyricist Stephen Sondheim-took Romeo and Juliet and turned it into a pulsing, kinetic opera about rival gangs of Puerto Ricans and Poles on Manhattan's west side, and the tragic consequences of their violent hatred for each other to Tony and Maria (Larry Kert and Carol Lawrence), who have fallen in love.
