WEST SIDE STORY, SWAN LAKE, ROCK OF AGES and More Set for King's and Theatre Royal Glasgow in 2014

By:

The King's Theatre and Theatre Royal Glasgow are proud to present a show-stopping season for 2014 that includes Defying Gravity performances and takes the audience on a musical journey through the decades.

It's Finger-snapping at the ready for Joey McKneely's vibrant stage production of the West Side Story (Wed 15 - Sat 25 Jan) which celebrates the original choreography by the legendary Jerome Robbins accompanied by unforgettable songs.

The audience will be sprinting to their seats for the critically acclaimed Chariots of Fire (Tue 4 -Sat 8 Feb). Adapted from the Oscar winning film; this is a moving tale of two men's rivalry and their bid to become the fastest man on earth.

Dame Edna is saying goodbye to her possums in style in the hilarious Barry Humphries: Eat Pray Laugh Farewell Tour (Tue 11 - Sat 15).

Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake (Tue 18 - Sat 22Feb) glides gracefully into the King's with a contemporary interpretation of Tchaikovsky's infamous score.

We're keeping it cool in February with the Fonz, played by Emmerdale's Ben Freeman, in a brand new UK tour of Happy Days: A new Musical (Mon 24 Feb - Sat 01 Mar). He'll be joined by Sugababe Heidi Range and Buck Fizz's Cheryl Baker.

From the Fonz's fifties to the swinging sixties, Let It Be (Mon 28 Apr - Sat 03 May) May is a must see for Beatle fans. The smash hit from the West End comes to Glasgow for the first time in April.

The spellbinding Scottish premiere of the multi-award winning Wicked (Tue 06 - Sat 31 May) flies onto the King's stage for four weeks only. This global phenomenon tells the untold tale of two characters, from L.Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and explores their unlikely but profound friendship. We follow their extraordinary adventure which will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.

Rockers don't despair, Tonight's the Night: The Rod Stewart Musical (Mon 02 - Sat 14 Jun), written by Ben Elton, is a chance to rediscover classic hits such as Maggie May, Baby Jane, Sailing and many more.

Don't miss Rock of Ages (Mon 4 -Sat 9 Aug) where you can really let your hair down and rock out to over 30 eighties anthems including Don't Stop Believin', We Built This City, The Final Countdown, and I Want To Know What Love Is. Eighties August continues as we urge Johnny not to leave Baby in the corner in the return of the record-breaking national tour of Dirty Dancing (Tue 26 Aug - Sat 20 Sep).

To bring us firmly into the 21st century, the Theatre Royal will be unveiling its modern makeover in time for Glasgow welcoming the Commonwealth Games. The Victorian auditorium has been given a contemporary touch with a dramatic new entrance and more fantastic facilities.

Matthew Bourne's Lord of the Flies (Wed 11 - Sat 14 Jun) returns to the Theatre Royal bringing William Golding's classic novel to life with spectacular choreography by Olivier nominaTEd Scott Ambler.

Go Dance 14 (Tue 17- Sat 21 Jun), in its prime new summer spot, celebrates remarkable young talent from across Scotland and promises to be the ultimate dance event of 2014.

Singin' in the Rain (Tue 12 - Sat 23) is showered with stars including Maxwell Caulfield, last seen by TV audiences in Emmerdale, as studio boss R F Simpson and Coronation Street favourite Vicky Binns plays Lina Lamont.
