THE LEGEND OF Julie Taymor, or The Musical That Killed Everybody! gets its world premiere this August at FringeNYC, playing the Bleecker Theatre. The musical by Travis Ferguson (book & lyrics) and Dave Ogrin (music & lyrics) tells the story of the rise and fall of Director Julie Taymor and the behind-the-scenes scandals of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark which has since become a modern Broadway legend. Odyssey Theatrical, LLC presents Odyssey - The Epic Musical, a thrilling musical adventure that follows Odysseus' epic journey home after the Trojan War, written by Matt Britten and Dimitri Landrain. Matt Britten directs a cast of twenty-five to be announced. Performances will be held at the American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54th Street from Friday, October 21st through Sunday, October 30th. *Member, Actors' Equity Association. AEA Showcase.

The obligatory Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark spoof that everyone figured would be a part of the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival obviously did not benefit from a series of workshops and readings before making its debut at the Bleecker Theatre. This one had to be a rush job.

On Monday, June 25, 2011, New York Theatre Barn will present its monthly platform, now in its 4th year, for emerging musical theatre writers at The Duplex (the series usually plays the Daryl Roth D-Lounge, by will play The Duplex for the summer). Featured writers for the July 25th installment include Mark Sutton Smith (Stand By The River), and Daniel Green. Executive Producers for NYTB in the D-Lounge are Laura Brandel and Karen Marshall.

At 10:32 pm last Friday night, the news began to leak. Cell phones began buzzing backstage across the Great White Way and during the curtain calls of some shows like Priscilla Queen of the Desert and The Normal Heart, cast members shared the historic news with exuberant audiences: the New York State Senate had voted 33 to 29 in favor of marriage equality. New York had just become the sixth state in the nation to legalize gay marriage.

On the eve of the opening of I Married Wyatt Earp, New York Theatre Barn will present A Celebration of Women Composers. The evening will benefit New York Theatre Barn and will feature songs by emerging songwriters Julia Meinwald (Pregnancy Pact), Zoe Sarnak (The Quad), Katya Stanislavskaya (Women on Love), and Shaina Taub (The Daughters).

As previously announced, New York Theatre Barn in collaboration with Prospect Theater Company will present the new all-female musical I Married Wyatt Earp at 59E59 Theaters May 20 - June 12, 2011. The production officially opens on Tuesday, May 24 and stars Heather Mac Rae (Falsettos, Hair, A Catered Affair) and Carolyn Mignini (Tintypes, Fiddler on the Roof).
