Building on critical acclaim for her one woman show, writer/performer Ann Randolph (Squeeze Box) will join the 2013/14 Kogod Cradle Series at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in a special extended presentation of her latest American comedy Loveland, an 'unforgettable, over-the-top comedy that forces people to think' (The Huffington Post). Following each performance, Randolph will guide audience participants through a mini writing workshop to explore the transformative and healing power of expressed personal grief. The combined performance and post-show experience will mark the launch of Randolph's national Good Grief Tour, an interactive experience that aims to spark a national discourse on grief with audiences around the country. Loveland, directed by Joshua Townshend, runs March 18-April 13, 2014 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

In commemoration of the birthday of the late Trayvon Martin, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will join theatres across the country in producing a staged reading of Facing Our Truth: Ten-Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30pm in the Melton Rehearsal Hall at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. Activities will also include an activism fair to begin at 6:30pm and a post-read panel discussion. The reading, discussion, and activism fair will be co-presented with African Continuum Theatre Company.

Hunter (The Whale) invites audiences to join him for open workshops for two of the new plays created during his residency, Lewiston and Clarkston. In March, the six members of the inaugural Playwrights' Arena (Norman Allen, Randy Baker, Jacqueline E. Lawton, Heather McDonald, Danielle Mohlman and Shawn Northrip) will introduce selections from the six plays they have each been working on independently as part of their yearlong collaborative program. Our Town runs January 9-12, 2014, Lewiston and Clarkston run February 6-9, 2014 and Playwrights' Arena-A Weekend of New Work runs March 6-9, 2014 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
Brooklyn, New York based trio Pearl and the Beard brings their genre-bending sound to the Capitol Center for the Arts Spotlight Cafe as part of the On the Edge series on Friday, February 21, at 7:30pm. National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. CTC is recommended for a $75,000 grant to support the commissioning and production of new work for young audiences.
