Sonic Boom Music Festival 2015 Kicks Off Today in Vancouver

The Sonic Boom Festival returns for its 28th year of contemporary classical music (new music). This truly unique musical experience will run for only 5 days, from today, March 25-29th, in two acoustically beautiful venues on Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver - the Orpheum Annex and Pyatt Hall.

Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall returns to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater with the world premiere of her most personal project to date-the fierce comedy-drama The Blood Quilt. Hall is an inaugural resident playwright of Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute, and The Blood Quilt is one of three plays from Hall receiving world premieres around the country this season. Hall reunites with director and Howard University alumna Kamilah Forbes (artistic director of the Hip-Hop Theater Festival) following their Broadway collaboration on The Mountaintop. The Blood Quilt runs April 24-June 7, 2015 in the Kreeger Theater. Check out a first look at the meet and greet below!

Canadian Stage to Host 'Spotlight South Africa' in April

Canadian Stage presents Nongogo, The Meal, Hatched, Ubu and the Truth Commission, Dominion and Chandelier in a three-week festival of South African performance as part of Spotlight South Africa. A tribute to the extraordinary vitality and originality of artistic work produced in the country, the festival will feature a variety of dance, drama, performance art and puppetry from Apr. 8 to 25 at Canadian Stage's two homes, the Berkeley Street Theatre (26 Berkeley St.) and the Bluma Appel Theatre (27 Front St. E).

NJ Poetry Out Loud Competition Names State Champion

Beatrice Dimaculangan, a junior from Jonathan Dayton High School, was named State Champion at the 2015 NJ Poetry Out Loud State Finals competition, part of the national poetry recitation program. The state finals took place Friday at the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton University's Alexander Hall and kicked-off the International Princeton Poetry Festival. Ms. Dimaculangan will move on to represent New Jersey at the national finals in Washington, DC in April to compete against 52 champions from every state and territory--all vying for the national title and the chance to win prizes including college scholarships.

Hailed by London critics, Only Our Own follows three generations of an Anglo-Irish family carving a place for themselves in modern Ireland. There is the grandmother, Lady Eliza, still haunted by atrocities witnessed in her childhood during the Irish Civil War, while her young grandson Peregrine is anxious to distance himself and make a success of the present. In between, his parents, Meg and Andrew, face a choice of remaining in their ivory tower or reaching out to build bridges across the religious divide.

The Public Sets Spotlight Series Lineup from Emerging Writers Group

The Public Theater announced the line-up for the popular Spotlight Series of free staged readings of new plays by The Public's Emerging Writers Group, beginning on Tuesday, April 7 and running through Tuesday, May 26 at the Sheen Center Black Box Theater (18 Bleecker Street).
