9 Works Theatrical, whose fifth anniversary offering is playfully tied up with a new production of Jason Robert Brown's cult two-hander musical THE LAST 5 YEARS, has just released a short-video feature showing actors Nikki Gil, who plays Cathy Hiatt, a struggling theater actress, and Joaquin Valdes, who plays Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, perform excerpts from the musical on stage Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at RCBC Plaza in Makati City.

The first time I heard 'Still Hurting,' the first song in the hit Off-Broadway musical THE LAST 5 YEARS, I knew it was going to be one of my favorite heartbreak songs. I also had the chance to listen to the other songs written by Jason Robert Brown for THE LAST 5 YEARS; however, I still felt the strongest connection to 'Still Hurting.' It is a sad song, but once in a while the company of a sad song is well appreciated.

Members of the press got the first glimpse at 9 Works Theatrical's fifth anniversary offering, Jason Robert Brown's hit Off-Broadway musical and two-hander THE LAST 5 YEARS, starring one of the theater company's favorite leading ladies, Nikki Gil, and Joaquin Valdes, last night at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City. Directed by Robbie Guevara, the production opens tonight, August 9.

In its fifth year, 9 Works Theatrical brings together the first-time tandem of Nikki Gil ('Sweet Charity,' 'They're Playing Our Song') and Joaquin Valdes ('Red,' 'Into the Woods'), playing the beloved couple featured in Jason Robert Brown's ('The Bridges of Madison County,' 'Parade') cult musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS. The production, directed by Robbie Guevara ('Grease,' 'They're Playing Our Song'), runs from Saturday, August 9, until Sunday, August 31, at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
