The Little Orchestra Society announces its Spring Benefit, hosted by two-time Tony Award winning actress Donna Murphy, to follow the premiere of Disney Fantasia Live in Concert tonight, April 26 at Avery Fisher Hall. The Arts and Education Honoree of the evening is the Big Apple Circus and its co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen. A special benefit reception for adults will take place after the concert on the Grand Promenade of Avery Fisher Hall. Saturday's two encore performances of this Happy Concerts For Young People program are already sold-out.
Yangtze Repertory Theatre's 20th anniversary production is 'The Empress Dowager,' a three-act epic examining 40 years of the reign of the Manchu empress who ruled China from behind the throne. It recounts the perilous journey of an ancient kingdom seeking a place in the modern world. The play is written and directed by Joanna Chan, Artistic Director, and will be performed by a cast of 25 in Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles. Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present the piece May 31 to June 23.
The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) has announced the lineup of full-length plays and musicals for its fourteenth season, running from July 15 to August 4, 2013 at the June Havoc Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 1st floor; the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 1st floor; the Main Stage Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 4th floor; and the Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, NYC, 4th floor. As part of its 40th Anniversary year, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) unveils the 2013 edition of the annual River To River Festival, Downtown's completely free summer arts festival. This year's edition takes place June 15-July 14 and presents a diverse collection of music, dance, theater, visual art, film and unique participatory experiences by both renowned and breakout artists from New York City and beyond.
The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 120 nominations in 25 categories of Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2012, and March 31, 2013. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 146 productions offered by 65 Non-Equity producing organizations. The judges recommended 54 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Thirty-three theatre companies received nominations.
A dazzling new production of the long-running Broadway revival CHICAGO directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran Gerry McIntyre opens the season June 13-23. Traditional favorite FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, with Boston television personality and IRNE Award winner Scott Wahle reprising his critically acclaimed role as Tevye, runs July 11-21. Ending the summer season August 8-18 is a revolutionary new staging of what many have called the most popular musical of all time, LES MISERABLES, directed and choreographed by David Hugo. Director Steve Hoke ran the light board for A FEW GOOD MEN 20 years ago. A FEW GOOD MEN returns to the York Little Theatre (YLT) stage May 10-12 and 16-19. Sunday performances are at 3:00. All other performances are at 7:30. A YLT long-time volunteer, Steve started in the early 90's working backstage and worked on almost every show the next four years. He then moved to Vegas where he lived for 14 years and moved back to PA in 2009. He immediately came back to York Little Theatre as a lighting designer. He submitted to direct A FEW GOOD MEN for YLT's 80th season in honor of YLT producing the show 20 years ago.

Following its, critically acclaimed, sold-out run at Angel Island this winter, Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. transfers its Jeff Recommended production of Tennessee Williams' classic THE GLASS MENAGERIE to Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave., for an extended run May 23 - June 30, 2013. Directed by ensemble member Hans Fleischmann, who also stars as Tom, the remount features the full original cast, including Walter Briggs, Maggie Cain and Joanne Dubach.
