Director Steve Hoke ran the light board for A FEW GOOD MEN 20 years ago. A FEW GOOD MEN returns to the York Little Theatre (YLT) stage May 10-12 and 16-19. Sunday performances are at 3:00. All other performances are at 7:30. A YLT long-time volunteer, Steve started in the early 90's working backstage and worked on almost every show the next four years. He then moved to Vegas where he lived for 14 years and moved back to PA in 2009. He immediately came back to York Little Theatre as a lighting designer. He submitted to direct A FEW GOOD MEN for YLT's 80th season in honor of YLT producing the show 20 years ago.

Playwright Aaron Sorkin got the inspiration for A FEW GOOD MEN from a phone conversation with his sister who had graduated from Boston University Law School and signed up for a three-year stint with the Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps. She was going to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base to defend a group of Marines who came close to killing a fellow Marine in a hazing ordered by a superior officer. Sorkin took that information and wrote much of his story on cocktail napkins while bartending at the Palace Theatre on Broadway. This Broadway hit depicts the true story of the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanomo Bay in 1986. During the course of the trial, a high-level conspiracy is uncovered and ultimately what's on trial is the military mentality and the Marine code of honor. The version of A FEW GOOD MEN to be performed at YLT was re-worked by Sorkin to include more scenes from the movie. It is still the story YLT delivered 20 years ago, now including more drama and suspense from the popular film.

Some of the Production crew, including Stage Manager Judi Miller, Lighting Designer Navin D. McWilliams III, and Director Steve Hoke were all involved with the original production of A FEW GOOD MEN in 1992. Set designer Ray Olewiler designed the set in 1992 as well. Nathan Schaffner is another late 80's, early 90's volunteer returning to the theater. He has lived and worked in North Carolina until recently moving back to PA. His first role back is that of the lead character Lt. Daniel Kaffee. Meg Shabdach plays Joanne Galloway in her first role at YLT. She has been a long time actor in musicals and has crossed over to straight plays with one of the most compelling female rolls available.

YLT is offering free admission for A FEW GOOD MEN to all active duty military personnel and a 25% discount to all veterans. Mothers get in free with the purchase of a full price regular adult ticket on Mother's Day. A special reception honoring everyone invloved at YLT in the 1990's follows the May12 performance.

On April 25 at 6:30, many heads will be shaved in the YLT Studio to formally "enlist" the actors into A FEW GOOD MEN to look the part. Trevor Cohenour knows the style needed for the show well. He works for Midtown Hair Company and is in the Army (National Guard) as an Infantryman.

YLT is in need of uniforms for the play, including men's Marine Alpha, Navy Service (summer whites), Khaki and Fatigues as well as Women's Khaki and Dress. Contact the office at 854-3894 or drop off your donation or items YLT can borrow at the office located at 27 S. Belmont Street.
