Writers Theatre to Stage Sondheim's COMPANY, 6/15-7/31

Writers Theatre concludes its 2015/16 season with Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company was originally produced and directed on Broadway by Harold Prince, and features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo, and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show runs June 15, 2016 - July 31, 2016 in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre: 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe. The Press Opening is Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m.

BWW Review: ACT 1's COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN

What happens when a group of teenagers idolize a celebrity - a figure from popular culture whose charisma ensures he will live on forever despite his death at a young age - reunite some 20 years later to further venerate their crush and to recall his impact on their young lives? That's the question considered in Ed Graczyk's Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, the tragicomedy now onstage as the final production of ACT 1's 2015-16 season at Nashville's Darkhorse Theater.

Richmond Symphony Announces Full Schedule for 2016 Summer Recital Series

RICHMOND, Va. (May 2, 2016) – The Richmond Symphony (RSO) is happy to announce 'Rachmaninoff & the Russians' as the theme of its third annual 2016 Summer Series of recitals. These weekly concerts continue in association with the University of Richmond Department of Music and VCU | School of the Arts | Department of Music. This year, the series is made up of six casual, one-hour evening concerts featuring the music of Sergei Rachmaninoff and works by other Russian composers. Performances take place in Dominion Arts Center's Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse on Thursdays, July 7 – August 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.

Bay City Players Stages of Discovery to Host Summer Workshops

In July and August, Bay City Players Stages of Discovery will hold a series of workshops designed to develop performance and technical skills.  Acting, movement, creative thinking & problem solving, awareness of the world around us, and theatre technology will be explored. Activities led by skilled & experienced theatre personnel.

Willie K, Mike Lewis & More Coming to Blue Note Hawaii in May

For Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, May begins with a bang with a music legend - Queen of Funk Chaka Khan Mother's Day week, followed up with guitar virtuoso Stanley Jordan, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and ground breaking acoustic guitarist Andy McKee in a series with local ukulele show openers Kalei Gamiao and Taimane Gardner, culminating with Christopher Cross. May also brings and a host of local talent including Willie K, Mike Lewis, Robert Cazimero, the Hawaii Jazz All-Stars, the Honolulu Jazz Quartet and a Mele Mei Celebration with Henry Kapono and Friends. Blue Note Hawaii also continues Gospel Brunch every Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. showtime, with doors opening at 11:00 a.m.

JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN Next Up for ACT 1 at Darkhorse Theater

Melissa Williams, longtime Nashville theater veteran, directs the final show of ACT 1's 2015-16 season – Ed Graczyk's Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean – running at Darkhorse Theater May 6-21.
