The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) honors John Adams's 70th birthday in a special three-weekend celebration of his music, February 10-25.

Berkeley Symphony announced today that Music Director Joana Carneiro has withdrawn from the Berkeley Symphony concert today, January 26 at 8 pm at Zellerbach Hall. Carneiro is pregnant and is under doctor's advice not to conduct or travel. The concert will be conducted by Christian Reif. The Orchestra will perform the Bay Area premiere of Mason Bates' Cello Concerto with Joshua Roman, to whom the work is dedicated, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 4.

Celebrations of John Adams's 70th birthday, which began in fall 2016, continue through 2017 with major festivities taking place in the composer's native California, organized around his birthday on February 15. Additional anniversary highlights during the winter and spring take place in New York and Chicago, and abroad in London, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

Berkeley Symphony and composer Anna Clyne have been chosen from a field of 59 applicant pairs to participate in a three-year composer-orchestra residency program, Music Alive, created by the League of American Orchestras and New Music USA. Berkeley Symphony and Clyne are one of only five composer-orchestra pairs to be selected by their peers, who represent a cross-section the U.S. orchestra world.

The Paul Dresher Ensemble Presents the music theater production Schick Machine September 23-25 on San Francisco's Z Space Main Stage prior to tour. Directed by Rinde Eckert virtuoso percussionist Steven Schick inhabits a fantastical stage filled with huge invented instruments and sound sculptures - including the Hurdy Grande, the Tumbler, the Field of Flowers and the Peacock (a deconstructed pipe organ). After the performance, the audience is invited onstage to engage and explore a kind of audio "maker" sound and visual domain. Lawrence Edelson, Artistic and General Director of Opera Saratoga, announced the program for the 2016 Summer Festival, which will run from May 28 through July 17, 2016. The season will feature three new productions at The Spa Little Theater in Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, New York, along with a diverse slate of recitals and concerts at multiple locations in Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and Albany.

Commemorating the 100th birthday of the late conductor and legendary choral leader Robert Shaw, Carnegie Hall presents the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus (ASOC) conducted by Music Director Robert Spano in a celebratory concert on what would have been Robert Shaw's 100th birthday, Saturday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.

 DALLAS, TX, December 8, 2015 – The Dallas Opera will present opera legend Frederica von Stade, mezzo-soprano, for another magnificent performance in The Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Art Song Recital Series. The one-time-only recital will be presented Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at City Performance Hall (a 749-seat venue located at 2520 Flora Street in the Arts District, Dallas, TX 75201). Also featured at the exclusive event will be Jake Heggie, composer (Great Scott, Moby-Dick) and accomplished pianist, who has had a long-standing artistic collaboration with Miss von Stade.

Andreia Pinto-Correia and Xi Wang have been selected to receive orchestral commissions of $15,000 each as part of the League of American Orchestras' Women Composers Readings and Commissions program, administered with the American Composers Orchestra and EarShot and supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Partner orchestras to premiere the works will be announced at a later date.
