How do you cram 50 hit songs, over 90 characters, and 25 years of history from one of music's most important companies into a dramatically satisfying, two hour and 45 minute musical? The answer is, you don't; but based on the enthusiastic response to MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, playing at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts through March 15th, that really doesn't matter. What does matter is that the music of Motown (the record company and the musical) is here to make people happy. That mantra is repeated multiple times during the show's most difficult situations by its central figure, Berry Gordy. According to the musical, Motown's founder created the most successful independent record label of all-time on little more than determination and a desire to spread joy. As anyone familiar with Motown's mile-long string of hits, or the stage show that they inspired, can attest to, Gordy, Hitsville U.S.A., and MOTOWN THE MUSICAL more than delivered on creating joy for countless generations of music fans.

The Public Theater will officially open the New York premiere of JOSEPHINE AND I tonight, March 10. Written by Olivier nominated actress and writer Cush Jumbo, and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, JOSEPHINE AND I began previews on Friday, March 27 and runs through Sunday, April 5 at Joe's Pub at The Public. The producers of WICKED announced today that it has broken two all-time North American Touring box office records by grossing $2,864,958 for the eight-performance week-ending March 1, and $3,266,527 for the nine-performance week-ending March 8, during its recent return to Atlanta's Fox Theatre February 18 - March 8. These records were previously set by The Book of Mormon in February 2014, also at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Two-time Tony nominee Keith Carradine will star in the Encores! production of PAINT YOUR WAGON this month, alongside Alexandra Socha and Justin Guarini. The show, set in a mining camp in Gold Rush-era California, is the story of a dreaming gold miner and his daughter whose world is changed when the daughter finds gold-and love-near their camp. Signature Theatre presents the New York Premiere of The Liquid Plain by Naomi Wallace, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah. The production runs now through March 29, 2015, with its opening slated for tonight, March 8, in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).
