Now Donald Trump, Jr. is trying to draw a connection between the production and this morning's shooting at a congressional baseball practice.
BWW Review: Tarnished CABARET at Paramount Shows How Good This Classic Can Be
by Jay Irwin
- Jun 14, 2017
The 1998 Sam Mendes staging of Kander and Ebb's classic "Cabaret" has come through the Paramount several times. And why not? It's a great show and a big crowd pleaser. But it requires a cast that gets the show and the tone to be done right. Fortunately for us the current tour at the Paramount is a shiny (or rather intentionally not shiny) example of how good this show can be and why it's still an enduring classic.

BWW Review: Black Roman Lives Matter in Trump-Themed JULIUS CAESAR
by Michael Dale
- Jun 13, 2017
For the past 400+ years, the title character in William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar has been traditionally regarded as one of the good guys. Oh sure, there was that time back in '37 when Orson Welles staged a production that had the Roman ruler interpreted as a stand-in for Mussolini, but The Bard's text is generally taken as a case where a powerful, but ultimately benevolent leader is assassinated by a group of questionably motivated, dagger-wielding senators who paint him as an ambitious populist seeking absolute power.

by Marianka Swain
- Jun 10, 2017
In this febrile climate, do we want societal critique from our theatre or pure escapism? As soon as Julia Knitel took the stage at the grand piano and opened her mouth to sing, she channeled every nuance of the legendary Carole King. Based on the inspiring true story of treasured Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Carole King, BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL certainly lives up to its title. This charming, swiftly-paced production continues performances at the Ohio Theatre through June 11.
