South Bank Show Awards Honors Carey Mulligan, Lucy Prebbles et al. with Noms.

The nominees for the final South Bank Show Awards for 2010 have been announced, and include An Education and The Seagull stage star Carey Mulligan, and Enron playwright Lucy Prebble. Enron will be making its Broadway premiere this spring. Both are up for The Times Breakthrough Award, which will be presented by Sir Ian McKellen.

Melissa James Gibson's THIS Extends Through January 3, 2010

Following critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced a three-week extension for the World Premiere of THIS, the new play by Obie Award winner Melissa James Gibson (Suitcase, [sic]). Directed by Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin ([sic], eight seasons as Artistic Director of Soho Rep), the production opened Wednesday, December 2. Originally set to run through Sunday, December 13, the limited engagement will now play through Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the theater company's Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). This date represents the latest extension possible for the show.

The New York Times has named its standout newcomers to the London theatre scene in 2009. London is well-known for its excellent revivals that often make their way to Broadway. This year, however, several notable new productions made a splash on the London theatre circuit. The list includes Jez Butterworth 'Jerusalem,' Polly Stenham's 'Tusk Tusk,' Alia Bano's 'Shades,' Alan Bennett's 'The Habit of Art,' and more.

In a special feature with the U.K.'s Daily Telegraph, powerhouse producer Sonia Friedman, the force behind the West End's Legally Blonde, talks the record-breaking production, feminism and her upcoming ventures. Included on this impressive list is a January West End transfer of Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem, one of the season's most successful productions that played the Royal Court, and developing a musical adaptation of the blockbuster Shakespeare in Love. And this after just opening A Little Night Music with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury on Broadway and preparing to open the Liev Schreiber/Scarlett Jonhansson-led A View from the Bridge on Broadway in January. In fact, Friedman has no fewer than 56 projects on her 'to-do list.'

Today, Wednesday 23 December 2009, Digital Theatre announces the release of the critically acclaimed Young Vic production of Kafka's Monkey by Franz Kafka. Kathryn Hunter's one woman show, in an adaptation by Colin Teevan, is directed by Walter Meierjohann and enjoyed a sell-out season at the Young Vic earlier this year.
