Jewish Community Center of Dallas' Performing Arts Space Presents WIZARD OF OZ Young Performers Edition

Jewish Community Center of Dallas' Performing Arts Space (JPAS) will present the treasured family musical Wizard of Oz Young Performers Edition (Tams-Witmark) during six shows this spring. The performances will feature two different casts of children and young adults ages 7 to 18 transforming into the roles of Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow and other inhabitants of Oz for performances April 4-14.

Healing Power Of The Arts Takes Center Stage In FIRE IN THE HEART

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City (The J) and The White Theatre are proud to announce the touring company of FIRE IN THE HEART, arriving in Kansas City for two performances: Saturday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. This exhilarating theatrical event features dance, gospel, hip-hop, classical music, poetry, autobiography and film to celebrate how the arts helped each performer pull through trauma-and pass on what they've learned to others. Through this performance, the audience gets an intimate look at how art can help us process, heal, and remain resilient not only with our personal challenges, but in the face of chaotic, difficult times.

INHERIT THE WIND Opens March 16 At The White Theatre Of The Jewish Community Center

The often-debated relationship between faith and science is at the very heart of the riveting drama, INHERIT THE WIND, which opens Saturday evening, March 16, at The Lewis and Shirley White Theatre of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. Raising issues as relevant today as they were when it was written in 1925, INHERIT THE WIND uses the Scopes Monkey Trial to explore this complex - and sometimes adversarial -- relationship. The drama has engagement of six performances at The White Theatre: Saturday evenings, March 16 & 23 at 7:30 p.m., Sundays March 17 & 24 @ 2 p.m. and Thursday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. A Schools-Only performance will take place on Wednesday, March 20 a 9 a.m. More information on the school performance, please contact the White Theatre Box Office, (913) 327-8054.

Special Reception Announced For SevenDays Kindness Art Exhibit At Plaza Library

Original artwork by high school students in the metro area will be on display as part of the first SevenDays Kindness Art Show, opening Tuesday, Feb. 19 and hosted by the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library. The various pieces of student art were originally submitted for the SevenDays button design competition. The exhibit will be on display at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri through Feb. 28 during regular library hours. A special recognition program will take place on Tuesday evening, Feb. 26, from 6:30-8 p.m.; the public is invited to attend the program.

Alan Cumming Brings Acclaimed Cabaret Show To Oshman Family JCC

The Oshman Family JCC presents internationally renowned performer Alan Cumming in his hugely acclaimed cabaret show Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs for one night only in Palo Alto. The beloved actor, singer, writer, producer, and activist will be joined onstage by Emmy Award-winning musical director Lance Horne and cellist Eleanor Norton for this delightful appearance declared an "emotional firestorm" by The New York Times, telling vivid stories of his most emotionally harrowing moments accompanied by sentimental tunes sung with Broadway-worthy bravado. DreamWrights Kicks Off Community Collaboration with YOURS, ANNE

DreamWrights Center for Community Arts is teaming up with York College's Center for Community Engagement and Gordon Center for Jewish Student Life and the York Jewish Community Center to bring a series of events highlighting the life of Anne Frank and her legacy of respect to York.

BWW Review: CABARET at White Theatre

The place is 1930s Berlin during the fading years of the Weimar Republic before Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. The play is 'Cabaret,' the 1966 multiple Tony Award winning musical iteration of Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical novel about the rise of the Nazis and libertine Europe performed at the Jewish Community Center's White Theatre.

Theater J To Debut THE JEWISH QUEEN LEAR

Theater J completes its four-show 2018-2019 season Around Town with the English language premiere of the Yiddish theater classic The Jewish Queen Lear, a translation of Jacob Gordin's Mirele Efros. The Jewish Queen Lear runs at Georgetown University's Davis Performing Arts Center in the Gonda Theatre March 13 - April 7. Jewish Family Services Announces Upcoming Programs And Activities

The Learn Laugh & Love program series, sponsored by Jewish Family Services and the Heritage Center of the Jewish Community Center, will present a free program on Thursday, Jan. 17, "New Year--New You…Nutrition Made Simple" at 1 p.m. in the MAC Room at the Campus. Crystal Futrell, a specialist in nutrition and health with the Johnson County Research and Extension program will facilitate a conversation about people's relationship with food and consequences on their health.  Futrell has worked with the Master Food Volunteer program as the Family Nutrition Program (FNP) program assistant prior to becoming Family and Consumer Sciences Agent/Nutrition and Health.  

Theater J Announces New Managing Director

Theater J, the nation's pre-eminent professional Jewish theater, is delighted to announce that Jojo Ruf will become its new Managing Director on January 28, 2019. Ruf joins Artistic Director Adam Immerwahr in the leadership of the theater, which is a program of the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (EDCJCC). Ruf comes to Theater J from The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics (The Lab) at Georgetown University, where she has been serving as Managing Director since 2015. She is a nationally-recognized field leader with particular expertise in international collaborations and new play development.

Jewish Repertory Theatre Presents THE LAST SEDER By Jennifer Maisel

The Jewish Repertory Theater is proud to present a reading of Jennifer Maisel's "The Last Seder", Monday, March 18, 7-9 pm at the Maxine and Robert Seller Theater, located inside the Jewish Community Center at 2640 North Forest Road, Amherst. "The Last Seder" is the first of a two-part reading series directed by Adam Yellen, actor and member of the JRT's advisory committee.
