Works & Process at the Guggenheim announces The World Premiere of WORKING IN PROCESS/ NEW BODIES

On Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 3pm and 7:30pm and Monday, November 14, 2016 at 7:30pm, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents Working in Process/ New Bodies, the culmination and World Premiere of choreographer Jodi Melnick's Works & Process residency with dancers Sara Mearns, Jared Angle, and Gretchen Smith at the Guggenheim's Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Peter B. Lewis Theater. Melnick's work weaves dance, spoken text, and moderated discussion with Claudia La Rocco, with live music for harpsichord by composer Gyorgy Ligeti, violin by composer Heinrich Biber, and newly commissioned music by Robert Boston.

When you first start digging into the vast array of musical theatre styles and genres out there, it can be pretty overwhelming. However, don't let this trepidation stop you from jumping in with both feet. You will be amazed with the help of all the great Broadway documentaries and archived recordings available on the Internet how easy it can be to immerse yourself in these classic scores, and immerse you must. Broadway music is traditionally very self-referential, and directors expect working actors to understand basic tropes like the Act I "what do I want" ballad or the eleven o'clock gospel number. Trust me, you don't want to be the only chorus member in Urinetown to miss that  "Snuff that Girl" is an affectionate tribute to "Cool" in West Side Story.

BWW Review: A Hysterical UMPO HOCUS POCUS Carries You to the Divine

Executive Producer Kate Pazakis has done it again with her latest UMPO production THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY OF HOCUS POCUS. Director Tye Blue effectively corrals his vocally gifted cast in gloriously performing re-purposed pop tunes in between delivering Pazakis and John Flynn's cleverly written homage to the 1993 film Hocus Pocus.

On Monday night, the biggest names from Broadway and Hollywood took the stage for aHillary Clinton fundraiser- STRONGER TOGETHER. One of the highlights of the event, which took place at New York's St. James Theatre, featured Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda and his Hamilton co-star Renee Elise Goldsberry, performing a revised election-themed version of the musical's, 'Ten Duel Commandments.' The star-studded show featured never-before-seen duets and appearances from Julia Roberts, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hugh Jackman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Emily Blunt, Neil Patrick Harris, Helen Mirren and many more. In addition, Former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton were on hand to speak to the crowd.
