August FREE Shows & Events Set For David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center

An August line-up of FREE events at David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center includes urban folk for families, a film screening highlighting legendary Stax Recordings soul and R&B artists of the 1960s/70's, evening concerts by rising American singer/songwriters and the Louisiana-generated stylings of one of today's leading Cajun music groups, excerpts from Bertolt Brecht's play Life of Galileo in an evening of music-theater, and a stylish evening of dance served up by Ballets With a Twist.

Ailey Benefit Raises $2.3 Million for Youth in Arts

Ailey's season celebrating five decades of the timeless classic, Revelations, kicked off last night with an Opening Night Gala Benefit hosted by Honorary Chairs Robin Roberts and Alfre Woodard. The night honored Joan Weill on her 10th anniversary as Chairman of Ailey's Board of Trustees and helped raise $2.7 million for Ailey's programs for children and young people, including AileyCamp and scholarships to The Ailey School. Artistic Director Judith Jamison expressed sincere gratitude to Joan Weill for her dedicated leadership and passionate commitment to furthering Ailey's mission of inspiring and educating through dance.

The Bethany Mass Choir, featuring George Shirley, Carmen Lundy, Dwight Andrews, Howard University's Afro-Blue Jazz Chorus, Eric Talley, Maurice Chestnut, Kenny Davis, Kassa Overall, and Geri Allen performing Mary Lou's Mass. Bethany Baptist Church, the first Baptist Church founded by African-Americans in Newark, will celebrate the annual church Homecoming and honor it's distinguished spiritual leader, Rev. Dr. M. William Howard, Jr., on his 10th pastoral anniversary.

BIO Channel Records Two Most-Watched Back-To-Back Quarters In Network History

BIO Channel recorded its two most-watched quarters in network history in fourth quarter 2009 and first quarter 2010. The network also, for the first-time ever, hit the 100,000 mark in the target adults 25-54 demo in first quarter 2010. Due To Role In NEXT TO NORMAL Ripley Bows Out Of Benefit

In Spring 2009, actress Alice Ripley will reprise her role as Diana in Next to Normal on Broadway, one of two productions Arena Stage is proud to have transferred to Broadway this spring. Due to this exciting development, Ripley will no longer be able to perform in Arena Stage's upcoming 17th Annual Benefit for Community Engagement, as was previously announced. Replacing Ripley in the role of Dorothy for the evening's entertainment will be Lindsay Czarniak, anchor and reporter for Washington's News4 Sports.
