The Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) box office will open Sunday, May 5 for the eagerly awaited 80th Anniversary Season produced by owner Bill Hanney. All tickets will go on sale at 10am by phone (401-782-8587), online (www.theatrebythesea.com) or in person at 364 Cards Pond Road in Matunuck, RI. Patrons who visit the box office in person on May 5 are encouraged to bring their family to enjoy complimentary light snacks and explore the beautiful seaside grounds.

This Wednesday, May 29th at 5:00 p.m. in conjunction with the publication of Peter Filichia's new book STRIPPERS, SHOWGIRLS, AND SHARKS, the Drama Book Shop, 250 West 40th Street (between 8th Ave & Broadway) will host a presentation. Peter's book looks at Best Musical Tony Losers. He will be interviewed by Ken Bloom, author of Broadway Musicals: The 101 Greatest. They'll discuss the logical choices, outrages, close races and upsets that have occurred in musical categories in the 66-year history of the Tony Awards.

Happy Birthday Leslie Uggams! Uggams starred in Hallelujah, Baby!, which premiered on Broadway in 1967, and won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical. She appeared on Broadway in the revue Blues in the Night in 1982 and in the musical revue of the works of Jerry Herman, Jerry's Girls in 1985. Later Broadway roles include Muzzy in Thoroughly Modern Millie (2003 - 2004) and Ethel Thayer in On Golden Pond at the Kennedy Center in 2004 and on Broadway at the Cort Theatre in 2005. In 2001 she appeared in the August Wilson play King Hedley II, receiving a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play.
Michael Feinstein's Great American Songbook Vocal Competition Set for 6/1 in Chicago

High school vocalists from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Missouri will compete on Saturday, June 1 at a regional for the Great American Songbook Vocal Academy & Competition. Sponsored by the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, the annual endeavor is the only U.S. competition dedicated solely to the music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-twentieth century.

Mason Alexander was recently a runner up finalist in the 2013 Jerry Herman Awards, has also been named a 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts and will be receiving an award from the President and performing at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, DC. This honor is the highest honor a high school senior can receive. Only 141 students are honored out of the millions graduating and from those only 20 are Arts Scholars.

Among those performing tributes were Tony Award nominee Keith Carradine (Hands on a Hardbody, The Will Rogers Follies) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly's Last Jam). The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 2013 Season is the year Broadway and Hollywood meet with all of the productions at the theatre being hits both on the silver screen and Great White Way. The season kicked off with the funny and heartwarming Steel Magnolias, followed by Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 - The Musical. Fresh from her choreographing stint at the first London revival of Marvin Hamlisch's 'A Chorus Line,' Baayork Lee, 'A Chorus Line' veteran herself, and a co-founder of the National Asian Artists Project, a non-profit organization that promotes Asian performing artists, presents a fully-staged, fully-costumed adaptation of Jerry Herman's hit Broadway musical 'Hello, Dolly!,' featuring an all-Asian cast led by Rosetta Lenoire Award-winning actress Christine Toy Johnson as Dolly Gallagher Levi, a widowed matchmaker (a role originated by Carol Channing in the 1964 Broadway production).
