Davis Gaines and Vicki Lewis Star in MACK & MABEL Benefit Concert for Musical Theatre West Tonight
Musical Theatre West will present a benefit concert of MACK & MABEL, starring Davis Gaines as Mack Sennett and Vicki Lewis as Mabel Normand.
MACK & MABEL features Music & Lyrics by Jerry Herman, Original book by Michael Stewart, Revised by Francine Pascal, Based on an idea by Leonard Spigelglass. The concert will be directed by Larry Carpenter with musical direction by John McDaniel.In MACK & MABEL, famed silent film director Mack Sennett reflects on his artistic legacy - his Bathing Beauties, the Keystone Cops, and of course, Mabel Normand, the waitress from Flatbush that he turned into a movie star. Set against the backdrop of the early days of cinema, this rarely seen musical gem depicts the bittersweet love story between two of film's early icons. MACK & MABEL features one of the best scores from Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!, Mame, La Cage aux Folles) including the songs "I Won't Send Roses," "Time Heals Everything," and "Tap Your Troubles Away."
The concert will take place tonight, May 20 at 8pm, presented by Musical Theatre West at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, 6200 E. Atherton Street, Long Beach, Calif. Admission: $40 to $60. For tickets, go to musical.org or call (562) 856-1999 x4. Runing Time: 2 hours.
