TV: NEWSIES' New 'Jack Kelly,' Corey Cott in Action!

Just yesterday, Newsies announced that Corey Cott will become the show's new leading man, Jack Kelly, beginning Wednesday, September 5th. Cott became the Jack Kelly alternate earlier this month and will continue as alternate until he assumes the role full time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sheryl Lee Ralph will guest star on NBC's Smash season two as Cynthia, mother of Jennifer Hudson's character Veronica Moore. Ralph starred as Deena Jones in Broadway's Dreamgirls in 1981.

As BroadwayWorld reported earlier today, Broadway veteran Sean Hayes has signed on to star in a multi-episode arc on NBC's SMASH this season. As the focus of the show will switch from Marilyn musical, 'Bombshell,' to a new production, Hayes will play 'Terrence Falls, a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in the musical "Liaisons," based on the novel "Les Liaisons Dangereuses." Due to a series of comic circumstances, he becomes a major thorn in the side for Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and other characters.

The brand new Elektra Theatre officially opens in Times Square tomorrow evening, July 25th. The first tenant at the Elektra Theatre is the transfer of the award-winning smash Off-Broadway hit, SILENCE! The Musical. The festivities will begin with a 6 PM cocktail hour, attended by Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Kara Lindsay and the cast of Broadway's NEWSIES.
