The Slipper Room Unveils Season Line-up For The Fall

The Slipper Room, the celebrated variety theatre in Manhattan's Lower East Side, has announced the line-up for their Fall season through the New Year, presenting a full calendar of regular weekly in-house productions in addition to guest shows, concerts and one-nighters.

Alt Cabaret Oasis Pangea Stands Up In Protest

Downtown supper-club Pangea is gearing up for the momentous events coming up in November with a number of shows from some of our signature artists that remind us how important it is to treat each other with dignity and fairness.  In October the East Village Mecca for cutting edge cabaret, song and performance, which The NY Times calls, "a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by," presents premieres by Tammy Faye Starlite, Salty Brine, and Rachelle Garniez. And special encores by Raquel Cion, Sidney Myer, Jeremy Lawrence.

Untitled Theater Company No. 61 in conjunction with Mad Jenny Theater Presents CABARET IN CAPTIVITY

Cabaret in Captivity, songs and sketches written in Terezin/Theresienstad, will be having its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Performance on April 9 and 16 at Pangea. Terezin was located an hour away from Prague, and during World War II it served as both an internment camp and a way station for the concentration camps during the Holocaust. Full of satire, bitter humor, and hope, these pieces demonstrate how art became a vital survival technique for the inmates. Most of these pieces were recently recovered through the efforts of scholar Lisa Peschel, who also translated the majority of the work.

National Jewish Theater Foundation to Bring 'CABARET IN CAPTIVITY' to York Theatre

The National Jewish Theater Foundation, in association with The York Theatre Company, will present a special one-night only performance of CABARET IN CAPTIVITY: Songs and Sketches from Terezin/Theresienstadt, as part of the second annual Holocaust Theater International Initiative Remembrance Readings. The event will take place on Sunday evening, May 1, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (619 Lexington Avenue, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

Michael Urie, Dana Ivey & More Set for Shakespeare Sonnet Slam in Central Park

MAD JENNY Begins in March at Pangea

Mad Jenny, the brainy provocateur of downtown cabaret, begins a four-month residency at the East Village supper-club Pangea, 178 Second Avenue, beginning Monday March 7 at 7pm.  "Love und Greed," her sumptuous theatrical revue blending songs from the Weimar underground with covertly inserted contemporary repertoire, performs the first Monday of the month from March through June.  The dates are Mondays March 7 (the opening), April 4, May 2, June 6, all at 7pm.

Opera on Tap Presents SMASHED: THE CARRIE NATION STORY at The New York International Fringe Festival, 8/9-15

Brooklyn-based company Opera on Tap will bring the hatchet-wielding icon of the temperance movement, Carrie Nation, to life in its hit production SMASHED: The Carrie Nation Story, which will be presented atThe New York International Fringe Festival this August. Performances will be held at The C.O.W. (21 Clinton Street, between Houston and Stanton) on August 9th at 1:45pm, August 10th at 6:30pm, August 12th at 3pm, August 13th at 7:45pm, and August 15th at 9:30pm. The “hilarious slapstick-style opera” (Feast of Music) by composer James Barry and librettist Timothy Braun will be presented in a fully immersive, all-bar-encompassing production, which Opera on Tap is calling 'Opera of the Ridiculous.'

Previews begin this week for the Off Broadway play on Thursday, May 15th and the Opening is Monday, May 19that 8:00 pm for the limited engagement. Set Design is by Simon Harding, (who recently did the set design for 3LD's amazing Tyson/Ali). The Lighting Design by Zach Murphy (Lighting supervisor at The Public Theatre). The award-winning play is directed by the playwright. This production features some of New York City's most talented physical theater actors: Andrew Baldwin, Richard Crawford, Mischa Ipp, Scott Janes, Timur Kocak, Jenny Lee Mitchell, Vicki Oceguera, Michael Villastrego, William Webber.

Legged Dogand Untitled Theater Company #61 are pleased to announce the return of THE PIG, OR VÁCLAV HAVEL'S HUNT FOR THE PIG, written by Vaclav Havel and Vladimir Moravek, adapted into English by Edward Einhorn. Directed by Henry Akona and featuring music from The Bartered Bride by Bed?ich Smetana (with musical arrangements by Mr. Akona), THE PIG, OR VÁCLAV HAVEL'S HUNT FOR THE PIG begins performances on Thursday, March 6 for a limited engagement through Sunday, March 29.
