Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC) opens 2014 with Miss Nelson is Missing, its third production of its 62nd Professional Season. Based on one of the most memorable books its time by Harry Allard and James Marshall, Miss Nelson is Missing is written by nationally-renowned, local playwright, Joan Cushing, who is the most produced playwright in children's theatre according to TYA Today Magazine. This children's favorite directed byJennifer Nelson (2011's Mirandy and Brother Wind and former Producing Artistic Director of the African Continuum Theatre) and music directed by Helen Hayes Award Recipient and 8-time nominee, George Fulginiti-Shakar, will run January 17- March 9, 2014. Miss Nelson is Missing stars Helen Hayes Award Nominee Jessica Lauren Ball (Olney's Cinderella, Toby's Legally Blonde) as Miss Nelson, the well-natured and long-suffering teacher of the disobedient Room 207, who is suddenly replaced by the petrifying substitute, Miss Viola Swamp. The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 11 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its fifth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $37,000 to 11 organizations across the country.
