McDaniel College theatre arts students perform in Moises Kaufman's explosive drama "The Laramie Project," originally developed with members of Tectonic Theatre Project after the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyo. Performances are Wednesday, September 30 - Saturday, October 3, 7:30 p.m., in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.

MERELY PLAYERS Extends Into July

Fresh off a successful run at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival, Merely Players extends into July, as part of the ENCORE! Producers' Award. The show, a meta-exploration of the theatre scene, watches as a struggling (and mostly terrible) theatre troupe attempts to put on a musical that maybe really should never have been written in the first place. The piece was also named 'Best Full-Length World-Premiere Musical' by StageSceneLA, making the 'Top Ten of the Fringe' list.

HISTORY MATTERS/BACK TO THE FUTURE, a coalition of theatre professionals, announced the winner of the 1st annual Judith Barlow Prize is Selina Fillinger, a student at Northwestern University, who wrote a one-act play inspired by Sophie Treadwell's play Machinal. Ms. Fillinger will receive $2,500, a trip to New York City and a staged reading of her play on Sunday, May 3rd at 3 pm at Helen Mills Theater, 139 West 26th Street, NYC. Award-winning actress Kathleen Chalfant will direct the reading which is free and open to the public.
