The Drama Desk and OBIE Award-winning Mint Theater Company today announced the extension for Rachel Crothers's comedy, A Little Journey, through July 17th at the Mint's home in the heart of the theater district, 311 West 43rd Street.
Though playwright Rachel Crothers was regarded as the toast of the town for many a Broadway season - she had 29 plays debut there in the years between 1906 and 1940 - she's scarcely know by 21st Century playgoers. Fortunately, the Mint Theater Company has been doing its part to return her name to the limelight; first with their mounting of her clever take on religious fads, Susan and God, and now with a sweeter, more uplifting comedy/melodrama - one that was a finalist for the first Pulitzer Prize for Drama - A Little Journey.

On the eve of the opening of I Married Wyatt Earp, New York Theatre Barn will present A Celebration of Women Composers. The evening will benefit New York Theatre Barn and will feature songs by emerging songwriters Julia Meinwald (Pregnancy Pact), Zoe Sarnak (The Quad), Katya Stanislavskaya (Women on Love), and Shaina Taub (The Daughters).

I started to play the guitar when I was 12. When I finally decided to try to be an actor for a living.... Musical theatre was something I gravitated to because it combined two of my favorite things...music and dance belts (or girls...or girls in dance belts). When I was in high school I sang in a rock band (we were totally sensitive) and I love that feeling of getting out there with a band creating a cacophony of different sounds. So, when they asked me to write a blerg (the Tina Fey pronunciation), I decided to write mine about the band.
Well, maybe we are. And maybe you are too. I used to like to consider a lot of the crazy people who stopped to talk to me in the street my guardian angels. Some drunk guy would walk up to me and tell me to follow my dreams: guardian angel. That was when I first got to New York. I was younger then (cough, cough, smoke, smoke.) And yet, I do feel quite lucky (shall I use the word blessed?) to go out on stage and work with these lovely and talented people on Falling for Eve every night. I also love getting to talk to the audience. Especially when they are smiling and look like they are ready for a good time. That's right, y'all: I can see your faces. That's also right, friends and family: Please sit in the fourth row or further back.
'Bryant Park, Trailers and Free Juice' by Jose Llana The morning started with a sound check. FALLING FOR EVE was performing in Bryant Park for the Annual Summer Concert Series sponsored and hosted by LiteFM. We were singing three songs from the show, as were a few other shows currently on the boards.
The best of Broadway is being presented free on six consecutive Thursdays this summer with '106.7 Lite fm Presents Broadway in Bryant Park 2010' - a lunchtime series which began on Thursday, July 8th at 12:30pm on the Bryant Park Stage. The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) and 1113 Productions (Steven Ullman, Executive Producer) opened the World Premiere of Falling for Eve, a new musical with book by Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis), music by Bret Simmons ('The Megan Mullally Show') and lyrics by David Howard (Galaxy Quest) last night, July 15. Performances began July 6th, 2010, at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the curtain call.
