New York Theatre Barn will present a concert of the new all-female musical The Belle of Tombstone on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

LOVE QUEST, a comedy by Mary Maguire and Steven McGraw, is getting a staged reading in New York City on February 27.

Playwright, Rob Cardazone Presents Go Gently Forward, a developmental reading for the book of a new musical, written by Rob Cardazone; directed by Guy Stroman. With George Abud, Jennifer Blood, Kendall Lloyd, John Pasha, Brittany N. Williams, Patrick McCarthy, Chuck Bradley, Katherine Wessling and Sam Kahler. Matilda Wormwood is a precocious five-year old who loves to read and has the ability to perform telekinesis. She also likes to meet life's obstacles. She comes from a family in which her father wanted a male child, so he calls her 'boy,' has a mother who didn't know she was pregnant and when Matilda came along was irritated because it interfered with Mrs. Wormwood entering dancing competitions and carrying on an affair with her dance instructor, and whose fellow students think she is odd because she likes school and knows all the answers.

Can there be a better way to capture Matilda's spirit so evocatively than in a sparkling new work for the musical theater? A musical journey through which we can chart her soulful, heartfelt ascent into a literary hierarchy in which readers can live vicariously? Matilda's forays into a fictional world of devil-may-care adventure, oftentimes aided by her gift for telekinesis or her penchant for clever tricks (like switching her father's hair oil with her mother's peroxide) - which is at once darker than other offerings of like ilk, yet somehow rather more confectionary than even the fluffiest of musical comedies - lend themselves exquisitely to Matilda the Musical, the critically lauded stage extravaganza that is somehow effervescently uplifting while remaining grounded.

Broadway In Chicago has announced that individual tickets for MATILDA THE MUSICAL, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers, go on sale to the public on Friday, January 22.  The First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL will play Chicago's Oriental Theatre (24 W Randolph) March 22 through April 10, 2016.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the First National Tour of MATILDA THE MUSICAL welcomes David Abeles in the role of Miss Trunchbull. He joins a company that includes Jennifer Blood (Miss Honey), Quinn Mattfeld (Mr. Wormwood), and Cassie Silva (Mrs. Wormwood), and three girls sharing the title role - Sarah McKinley Austin, Lily Brooks O'Briant, Savannah Grace Elmer.

A magical blend of a Grimm fairy tale, like HANSEL AND GRETEL, a Dickensian novel like OLIVER, and a childhoodhood fable like Roald Dahl's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, and you have the makings of the new musical MATILDA, (also by Roald Dahl), that is playing at Shea's Buffalo Theatre.

I first became aware of author Roald Dahl from watching the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, although I didn't read the book it was based on, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, until later, finding it much darker in tone than the movie, but very entertaining nonetheless. After that exposure I remember watching the Tales of the Unexpected series on television, which was based on his short story collection of the same name. I never read Matilda, but I wish I had, and I think I'm going to in the near future, because we share something in common; the love of books of all kinds. MATILDA THE MUSICAL brings this tale to life in impressive fashion (book by Dennis Kelly, music & lyrics by Tim Minchin), with this story of a precocious little girl, whose parents don't understand her. It's a wondrous show, filled with memorable songs that snugly fit and advance the action, and an incredible cast that will have you rooting for them every step of the way. It's truly magical, and definitely a must-see, for families, and even those who don't have them. You have to see this glorious production that's currently playing at the Fox Theatre through November 1, 2015.
