On November 15th, the winners of the Stage Directors and Choreographers' Joseph A. Callaway award were announced at an intimate presentation at the SDC offices, attended by most of the finalists. John Tiffany, director and Steven Hoggett, choreographer each won the prestigious award for their collaborative work on Once, produced by New York Theatre Workshop.
TACT/The Actors Company Theatre (Scott Alan Evans, Cynthia Harris and Jenn Thompson, Co-Artistic Directors), the critically acclaimed and Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway company "dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely produced plays of literary merit," has scheduled a post performance discussion with the production design team and cast of Brian Friel's Lovers, the first play of the company's 20th Anniversary Season, on Thursday, October 4th following the 7:30 p.m. performance. The designers will each share their thoughts on their concept for the show and how they collaborated with the director to bring his vision to the stage. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions of the design team and cast. The discussion will be moderated by Scott Alan Evans, Co-Artistic Director of TACT.
Continuing their "Celebration of Off-Broadway,' The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director), will present a staged concert production - similar in style to their acclaimed Musicals in Mufti Series - of the 1966 musical Man with a Load of Mischief, with music by John Clifton, lyrics by Clifton and Ben Tarver, and book by Tarver. Directed by Jenn Thompson with music direction by Bryan Wade, Man with a Load of Mischief will play three performances only, today, October 1 at 3:00 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m. at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's. TACT/The Actors Company Theatre celebrates the success of its critically-acclaimed 2011/12 season and honors the accomplishments of Victor Garber - one of this country's most versatile actors, at its annual Spring Gala tonight, May 7th at The Loeb Boathouse Central Park (East 72nd Street & Park Drive North). The celebratory evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and the new "Pick-a-Prize" Raffle where attendees can select which prizes they want to win. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. TACT company member Simon Jones will serve as master of ceremonies and introduce the evening's entertainment and live auction - which includes VIP tickets to the 2013 Australian Open and tickets to the 2013 Olivier Awards in London - set to commence at 8:30 p.m.
Ultimately, this was a series of hits and misses. Half the characters and plot points weren't really needed. Nonetheless, when you boil it down, "Pratfalls" is a great relationship piece.
