BWW Reviews: Impressive New Regional Production of LES MISERABLES Debuts in La Mirada
by Michael L. Quintos - Jun 10, 2014

First to take on this brave task of bringing a regional production of the hit musical LES MISERABLES to the L.A./O.C. area is McCoy-Rigby Entertainment, that regional theater powerhouse that has consistently and successfully put on some magnificent, Broadway-caliber productions at their home base at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. In this theatrical company's very capable hands---particularly the pair attached to the production's Ovation Award-winning director Brian Kite---this impressive, locally-gestated LES MIS is confident, gutsy, and even quite rousing.

BWW Reviews: 3-D Theatricals Goes INTO THE WOODS
by Ellen Dostal - May 8, 2014

Stephen Sondheim's lyrics and James Lapine's book are so brilliantly profound in INTO THE WOODS that, when in doubt, the best thing an actor can do is simply make sure the audience can hear the words. 3-D Theatricals struggles with this basic tenet in its gorgeously appointed though unmanageably large production.

BWW Reviews: Wishes Come True in 3-D Theatricals' INTO THE WOODS
by Michael L. Quintos - May 6, 2014

Bursting with magic, wit and whimsy, INTO THE WOODS---the sprightly Tony Award-winning musical that features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine---is currently on stage at the Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton through May 18. Produced by OC's Ovation Award-winning 3-D Theatricals, this sardonic, often funny, metaphor-heavy dark musical comedy disguised as a family-friendly play is indeed an enjoyable, funny romp, marred only slightly by the theater's ever pesky sound system that renders many of the show's rapid-fire lyrics all but decipherable as the too-loud (albeit hard-working) orchestra drowns out the characters' voices. Still, this trip is worth the journey.

BWW Reviews: THE PRODUCERS - Another Big Hit for 3-D Theatricals
by Ellen Dostal - Feb 6, 2014

If life really is about not taking anything too seriously, as Mel Brooks would have us believe, then do yourself a favor and see 3DT's production of The Producers. It may be politically incorrect but it's the funniest version of this musical I've ever seen and it will push you to have a good time in spite of yourself. Yes, it's another one of my must-see musicals of 2014.

Ah, yes. 2013 was indeed an outstanding year for theater in Southern California. With that said, here is my Top 10 Stage Shows of 2013 from Orange County and adjacent locales nearby, followed by my picks for the year's best performances.

The production, with music and lyrics by Brooks and a book by Thomas Meehan, marks the regional theater premiere of this hilariously tuneful show based on the 1974 smash hit film Young Frankenstein which was a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelleyclassic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks.
