Broadway In Chicago Celebrates Leading Chicago 'Working' Heroes

Broadway In Chicago and the company of WORKING are pleased to announce their 'Local Heroes' program, created to honor and complement the new musical WORKING, which begins previews February 15, 2011, at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E. Chestnut). The program is designed to pay tribute to Studs Terkel's vision of showcasing everyday people. WORKING will honor Chicago's own through post-show conversations about who they are, what they do in life and how they make a difference. These conversations will include fascinating professions from doctors to firemen, to waitresses, assistants and sanitation workers and professions from every spectrum of our lives along with cast members of WORKING.

An elite group of influencers, including Kathryn Stockett (best-selling author of The Help), former U.S. congressman Harold Ford, Jr, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and many more will participate in a special post-performance talkback series next month at Driving Miss Daisy. As previously announced, the series, celebrating Black History Month, will feature talkbacks after all Wednesday evening performances throughout the month of February and will kick-off with a talkback featuring CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller and her husband, Marc Morial (President of the National Urban League and former New Orleans mayor).

David Dinkins Joins DRIVING MISS DAISY Talk-back, 2/9

Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that former NYC Mayor David Dinkins will participate in Driving Miss Daisy's series of Wednesday night post-performance talk-backs, celebrating Black History Month. Dinkins will join the line-up for the post-show discussion tomorrow (Wednesday, February 9), which also includes CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, and NYU Professor Martha Hodes. Driving Miss Daisy producer Jed Bernstein will moderate the conversation, which will center around the issues of race brought up in the play. As previously announced, this series continues throughout the month, with talk-backs following all Wednesday evening performances. Upcoming guests include Harold Ford Jr. (February 16), Kathryn Stockett (February 23) and more. See below for a full schedule of participants.

Jill Furman, Tony® award-winning and two time Tony award-nominated Broadway producer, will be presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for "outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing" at a reception at The Glass House Tavern on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Tony award-winning writer, performer, lyricist, and composer, who wrote and starred in In the Heights, will present the award.
