The National Portrait Gallery Acquires Bust of British Actress Margaret Rawlings

A large plaster bust of the celebrated twentieth century British actress Margaret Rawlings by sculptor Frank Dobson has been donated to the National Portrait Gallery Collection, it was announced today (Wednesday 11 December 2013).

Now in its 5th year, American Thymele Theatre's NYC Euripides Free Summer Festival Series presents HIPPOLYTUS from July 23rd through 27th. Outdoor performances will be held at the East River Park Amphitheatre (Tues. 7/23 and Wed. 7/24), the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park (Thurs. 7/25), at Theatre Seven Seventy Seven (Sat. 7/27). Stephen Diacrussi directs a cast of 22 headed by Amina Camille, Maite Uzal, Matthew Cavender, Maia Karo, Gregory L. Wilson, Gavin Rohrer, Reet Roos Varnikand Shawn Patrick Gianella. The chorus is led by MaryBeth Schroeder.

The Vassar Drama department will present three performances of Aristophanes' comedic satire about war and sex, Lysistrata, directed by guest artist Ianthe Demos, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 6, 7, and 8, at 8:00pm, in the Martel Theater of the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film. Demos, a 2000 Vassar graduate, co-founded the critically acclaimed One Year Lease theater company (OYL) in 2001 and their work has been widely praised by the New York Times and New York magazine among other outlets. Reservations are required for these free public performances, and can be made by calling the Drama department box office at (845) 437-5599 or emailing boxoffice@vassar.edu. Decca Records/Universal Music announces the global signing of Franciscan Friar, Alessandro Brustenghi, from the original friary founded by Saint Francis of Assisi: the Porziuncola in Assisi. Alessandro is the first Friar in the history to land a major record deal.
