INTAR has announced that the 2016-'17 Season will kick off with the world premiere of THE MAIDS by Jose Rivera, adapted from the play by Jean Genet. Daniel Irizarry directs a cast that features Laura Butler Rivera, Daniel Irizarry, Charlie Munn, Casey Robinson, and Folami Williams with Special Appearance by Jose Rivera (September 29 to October 9th only).
Portland has a new theatre company! Public Citizen Theatre is the mostly crowdfunded passion project of Amanda Mehl and Aaron Filyaw. For their first production they've chosen Jean Genet's 1947 play THE MAIDS, a sadomasochistic look at domestic servitude, based on the true story of the Papin sisters and translated by Martin Crimp.
Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company opens its 2016-2017 season with THE MAIDS by Jean Genet. Loosely based on the infamous Papin sisters who brutally murdered their employer and her daughter in Le Mans, France, in 1933, THE MAIDS tells the story of two servants who act out elaborate role-plays while their mistress is away, all centered around killing her.
The award-winning Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC), known for bringing children of diverse ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds together through a program of musical excellence, community and educational initiatives under Artistic Director/Founder Francisco J. Nuñez, will give a one-hour preview of its summer tour concert program on Thursday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater at Marcus GarveyPark (enter at 124th Street and Fifth Avenue and walk south to the venue).
This summer The Farm Theater is pleased to present Padraic Lillis' solo show, Hope You Get to Eleven, or What Are We Going to Do About Sally?, directed byScott Illingworth and presented as part of the 8th Annual Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. Full casting is today announced for the world premiere of PlacePrints. Print Room at the Coronet is proud to welcome Toby Jones and Juliet Stevenson leading the company in a semi-staged production of four new dramatic works by David Rudkin, inspired by British rural landscapes and presented in associated with East Midlands touring theatre company New Perspectives. Jack McNamara also directs Richard Lynch, Hugh Ross and Frances Tomelty. The readings will take place over two nights and also complements Rudkin's new translation of Jean Genet's Deathwatch which is on at the Print Room at the Coronet from 11 April - 7 May.
