Casting has been announced for the Charlotte return of Disney's THE LION KING, which will leap onto the stage at Belk Theater from Wednesday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 9, presented by Blumenthal Performing Arts.
Disney's hit West End musicals Aladdin and The Lion King have today announced that a summer Pop-Up will open its doors to Disney fans old and new in Covent Garden throughout August. Located at 25 Long Acre in the heart of Theatreland, the Pop-Up will be open every day from Tuesday 31st July until Sunday 26th August with a host of free interactive experiences and special events to enjoy.

Disney's The Lion King continues to reign across North America with a record-breaking, sold-out, two-week premiere engagement at Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo, where the tour grossed over $3.4 million at the box office and entertained more than 52,000 theatergoers during 16 performances. In 1994, the Disney animated feature The Lion King made history as the highest grossing film of the year. Three years later on November 13, 1997, the awe-inspiring stage adaptation directed and costumed by Julie Taymor opened on Broadway. It received six Tony Awards, including Best Musical. With songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, the vibrant score is by Hans Zimmer, who recruited South African composer Lebo M. to create the textural Zulu influence. Twenty-five years later, its legacy continues to reverberate around the world. In a Japanese translation of this mega hit, Shiki Theater Haru in Minato remounted the first international production of The Lion King on December 20th, 1998. This year it celebrates its 20th anniversary in Japan at the Natsu Theater in Shinagawa.
