The Tank To Celebrate 15th Anniversary With Gala 5/22

The Tank (Meghan Finn and Rosalind Grush, Artistic Directors) will hold their 15th Anniversary Gala on Tuesday, May 22 at their home, 312 West 36th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues). The event will honor Randi Berry of IndieSpace, an organization that creates 'permanent real estate solutions for the independent theater community'. IndieSpace was instrumental in finding The Tank's new home, and we'll be celebrating The Tank's home, history, and future with this exciting event. THE BENCH, A HOMELESS LOVE STORY Comes to The East Village Playhouse

The Off-Broadway hit show, The Bench starring Robert Galinsky, directed by Jay O. Sanders, will extend its sold-out run for a third time. BWW Review: UNCLE VANYA at The Old Globe

Classics are classics because they have a resonance that lasts long after their final word has been written.  The Old Globe's production of UNCLE VANYA, by Anton Chekhov, with a new translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky with playwright and production director Richard Nelson, is nothing short of an excellent example of letting a classic have its vibrant say once again.

KCRep to Visit Children's Mercy Hospital Tomorrow

 KCRep announced today that Jamie Sanders, lead actor in KCRep's THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME now playing at Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus, will visit the Children's Mercy Hospital Tourette Syndrome Center of Excellence located at 2401 Gillham tomorrow Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Jamie will tour the hospital, meet the staff at Adele Hall and have a meet-and-greet with parents of children with Tourette's syndrome at 3:30 pm.

Barry Edelstein to be presented IN CONVERSATION with Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky

The Old Globe will present a free, one-night-only event, Barry Edelstein In Conversation with Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky, supported by the Fuson Family, on Wednesday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m. Continuing his very popular interview series, Edelstein sits down with translator/director Nelson-a great American playwright, at once a poet of the stage and an innovator of theatrical form-and Pevear and Volokhonsky-the world's foremost translators of Russian literature, and perhaps our most influential thinkers about the art of translation. They will discuss the collaborative process behind this Uncle Vanya, as well as the art of translation and bringing the classics of the stage to life for a contemporary audience.

The play, adapted by Simon Stephens, is based on the bestselling novel by Mark Haddon. At KCRep, CURIOUS INCIDENT is directed by Marissa Wolf.

New Performance Space East Village Playhouse Opens Downtown

A brand new performance space has opened in the downtown theatre scene, the East Village Playhouse (340 East 6th St) now occupies the former music shop Tribal Soundz. A destination for thriving and aspiring musicians and recording artists, the shop shuttered in 2008. Now the once vacant East 6th Street storefront has been revived for the first time in a decade as the East Village Playhouse, an arts destination. Opening on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the New York premiere of A Brooklyn Boy is the debut production, playing alongside the recently announced extension of The Bench.

Cast and Creative Team Announced for UNCLE VANYA at The Old Globe

The Old Globe's 2017 2018 Season continues with today's announcement of the complete cast and creative team for Anton Chekhov's masterpiece Uncle Vanya, which has received a Globe-commissioned world premiere translation from Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, andLarissa Volokhonsky. Richard Nelson (Illyria, The Gabriel Plays, Tony Award winner for Best Book of a Musical for James Joyce's The Dead) also directs. Uncle Vanya will run February 10 March 11, 2018 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Tickets start at $30.00 and are on sale to the general public now. Previews run February 10 14. Opening night is Thursday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Staged during Veterans Week 2017, NYC Public Artist in Residence (PAIR) Bryan Doerries and Theater of War Productions will bring together leading actors and city officials such as Council Member Jumaane Williams, Kathryn Erbe (Law & Order), Maryann Plunkett (House of Cards), Bill Camp (Jason Bourne), and Jay O. Sanders (The Good Wife) in dramatic readings of scenes from Classical Greek plays. Events are free and open to the wider public.
