Florida Studio Theatre announces its 36th annual Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, which will present three new staged readings by modern American playwrights. Part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays, this three-day series will take place in Bowne's Lab Theatre on April 29, May 6, and May 13 at 3 PM each day. This series is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 74th Rolling World Premiere (RWP): The Madres by Stephanie Alison Walker. The Roll will run through Skylight Theatre Company (March 10-April 29 in Los Angeles, CA) and Teatro Vista (April 21-May 27 in Chicago, IL), MOXIE Theatre (May 13-June 10, in San Diego, CA), and Shrewd Productions (August 24-September 15 in Austin, TX). The Madres was presented at NNPN's 2016 National Showcase of New Plays, hosted by the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas-Austin.

The Irvington Town Hall Theater (ITHT) is excited to announce the inaugural year of its ITHT Stage Door Playwright Festival on November 11 and 12. A weekend of readings of original and diverse one-act plays by a varied line-up of outstanding writers, the festival will be broken up into four sessions (two on Saturday and two on Sunday), with each session featuring different playwrights. This festival will be a springboard for playwrights to get their work up on its feet, and a chance for ITHT audiences to participate in the process by talking with the writers and other industry professionals during a Q&A at the end of each session.
