The 2014 Best New Artist winner, surfer, singer/songwriter and teen heartthrob, Cody Lovaas, will stroke the heartstrings of many high school students with a live performance and assembly to promote Performing Arts in schools, and discuss his 'Natural High' or alternative to drug and alcohol abuse by doing what he loves - music! This assembly, presented as part of the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation's Arts in Education Initiative, will take place at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 AM. Sponsored by Taylor Guitars and Natural High, Cody Lovaas will share his love of music and improving the world with fellow teens in our community.

Come and dance the blues away with Five Guys Named Moe! Helen Hayes Award winner Robert O'Hara (Bootcandy, director of The Mountaintop at Arena Stage) returns to Arena Stage to direct an explosive, reimagined tribute to the 'King of the Jukebox'-legendary composer and saxophonist Louis Jordan. This modernized production features new orchestrations for classic songs, including 'Let the Good Times Roll' and 'Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby,' and a contemporary twist on the five Moes, now a hit boy band set in 2014. This dynamic musical revue features musical direction by Darryl G. Ivey (assistant music director for original Broadway production of Five Guys Named Moe) and choreography by Byron Easley (off-Broadway's Langston in Harlem). A co-production with Cleveland Play House, Five Guys Named Moe runs November 14-December 28, 2014 in the Kreeger Theater.

Telemundo's “Yo Soy El Artista” (I Am the Artist) concluded the audition rounds last night with the selection of 27 new participants who won over the 100 digital and social media influencers, the celebrity judges, and host Lucero. A total of 53 contestants will face-off to be admitted into the “Escuela de Artistas” (Artist's School) next Sunday, October 5 at 8pm/7c. Viewers will witness the elimination of contestants during this decisive episode that takes place at an impressive hangar, which will become the stage of singing, dancing and performance challenges. In the end, only 14 will be admitted to the school to kick off the Galas, the final phase of the competition, until a winner of “Yo Soy el Artista” is chosen in the grand finale.

This is easily the most excited I have been for an episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE all season. Even though I picked three of the four finalists as major contenders when the Top-20 was announced (and five of the final six, thank you you very much), this is definitely not the Final Four (Zack Everhart, Jessica Richens, Valerie Rockey and Ricky Ubeda) that I thought we would have just a few weeks ago.
