The Civilians, the award-winning New York-based theatre company, announces the members of its 2013-14 R & D Group. The group's emerging and established artists were selected from over one hundred applicants. The R & D Group is comprised of artists from multiple theatrical disciplines. Each artist or creative team will develop an original work over the season. The artists and projects were selected to represent a range of different strategies for making new work from creative inquiry and research. This diversity of approach helps feed a culture of innovation in the group, making the R & D Group an effective lab of experimentation for the field of investigative theater.

Producers Daryl Roth and Eva Price announced today that Emmy Award-winning actor Tom Skerritt will make his Broadway debut in A Time to Kill, Tony Award-winning playwright Rupert Holmes' stage adaptation of John Grisham's best-selling novel. Skerritt will portray Lucien Wilbanks, the mentor to protagonist Jake Brigance (played by Sebastian Arcelus), in this thrilling, iconic courtroom drama. Skerritt joins the previously announced Sebastian Arcelus, Chike Johnson, Patrick Page, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, Fred Dalton Thompson, John Douglas Thompson, and Ashley Williams plus Dashiell Eaves, J.R. Red Tape Theatre (RTT) announces their 2013/14 Season, which marks their 10th Anniversary Season and first season under the direction of new Artistic Director, Brandon Ray. The season opens October 14th, 2013 with the world premiere of The Life and Death of Madam Barker by Brooke Allen, with music and lyrics by John Fournier and directed by Eric Hoff. Mexico City-based company La Piara in collaboration with Chicago writers/directors Seth Bockley and Devon de Mayo (who previously co-wrote and co-directed As Told by the Vivian Girls for Dog & Pony Theatre Company as part of Steppenwolf's Garage Rep) returns to Chicago with its satirical physical comedy Guerra: A Clown Play at Links Hall, 3111 N. Western Ave., for seven performances, today, July 26-Aug. 4. The piece was previously performed in Chicago at Millennium Park in March 2012.
Producers of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Revival, are pleased to announce that Tracy Letts' Killer Joe will be heading to Broadway for the first time. The Broadway premiere of Killer Joe will reunite Pam MacKinnon, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Director of a Play (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) and Tracy Letts, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). The production is slated to hit Broadway in 2014.
The first weeklong residency was held at The Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in Tarrytown, New York from June 21-29. It featured playwrights Stephen Brown and Max Posner, along with director Portia Krieger and a company of actors. The Pocantico Center residency, established in 2008 by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, supports artists in their creative process. This was Page 73's fifth summer sending playwrights to the residency.
