Quintessence Theatre Group Sets 2016-17 Season

Quintessence Theatre, Philadelphia's only all-classical repertory theatre, announces its seventh season of progressive classics. Season 2016-2017 includes MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN in the fall, a world premiere family holiday classic WILDE TALES, a rotating repertory: LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST and THE BROKEN HEART in the spring, and UNCLE VANYA to close the season in the summer.

HAMLET, MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA & More Set for Quintessence Theatre Group's 2013-14 Season

Quintessence Theatre Group proudly announces its fourth season of classic plays remixed for the contemporary stage: HAMLET, SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, and MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA. Each play is a masterwork, pushing the limits of the theatrical art form through poetry, passion and spectacle. In partnership with its diverse audience, built over three years of visceral, actor and text driven progressive classics, Quintessence hopes to further ignite the Philadelphia theatre scene through the essential and complex art of adapting the classics for the contemporary stage.

Painted Bride Stages IF SHE STOOD, Now thru 5/5

This year the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts began with the question, 'If you had a time machine, where would you go?' In answer to that, the Painted Bride is taking audiences back to December 5, 1833 and right into the heart of the founding of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. This creation, If She Stood, will run for six performances - tonight, April 26, 2013 at 8pm, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 8pm, and Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 3pm, followed by Today, May 3, 2013 at 8pm, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 8pm and Sunday May 5, 2013 at 3pm, at the Painted Bride Art Center during the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts.

FIDDLER Leads Barrymore Award Nominations; Ceremony Set for 10/4

The 2010 Barrymore nominees have been announced! Created in 1994, The Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre are the Greater Philadelphia region's only comprehensive theatre awards program, recognizing artists for excellence and innovation while serving to increase awareness of the richness of the local theatre community. The Barrymore Awards are a nationally recognized symbol of excellence for theatre in this region, raising the bar for the work produced by local theatres and individual artists, and generating significant coverage in all the local newspapers and in national trade publications.Each year, over 120 shows produced by the region's professional theatres are reviewed by the Barrymore Voters. At the annual awards presentation each Fall, the Barrymore Awards are presented to honor the community's collective achievement.
