BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Jamshied Sharifi, who won a Tony Award in 2018 for orchestrating The Band's Visit on Broadway, has died at age 64 after a battle with cancer. 

St. Ann's Warehouse, responding to extraordinary demand for tickets, has announced a three-week extension of Monsoon Wedding, the Musical, Mira Nair's live theatrical adaptation of her landmark film. The new production, featuring actors and theater-makers from India and the global Indian diaspora, welcomes audiences inside the lavish wedding plans and frenzied leadup to an arranged marriage beset by modern tensions. Preview performances begin at the Brooklyn waterfront theater on May 6.

Later this month, Charlotte’s Blumenthal Performing Arts will present the world premiere of BLACKSTAR SYMPHONY, The Music of David Bowie, with featured guest vocalist John Cameron Mitchell. A collaboration between BLACKSTAR SYMPHONY Artistic Director Donny McCaslin and The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, led by Conductor Tim Davies, the concert is a unique and singular interpretation of the music of Blackstar, Bowie’s final musical masterpiece, which was released two days before his untimely death.

Charlotte’s Blumenthal Performing Arts will present the world premiere of BLACKSTAR SYMPHONY, The Music of David Bowie, with featured guest vocalist John Cameron Mitchell, taking place on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 on the stage of the Belk Theater as part of the inaugural Charlotte International Arts Festival.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that THE BAND’S VISIT, featuring music and lyrics by Tony® and Drama Desk Award®-winner David Yazbek, will be returning to Washington, D.C. from July 5–17, 2022.

The national tour of THE BAND’S VISIT, currently playing the Eccles Theater, presents a slow-moving, introspective slice of life that washes over the audience, occasionally grabbing them as it illuminates glimpses of the story each person has to tell.

Broadway in Portland has announced that THE BAND’S VISIT, featuring music and lyrics by Tony Award® and Drama Desk Award-winner David Yazbek, will be coming to Keller Auditorium in Portland from January 4 – 9, 2022.
