A hauntingly good time is to be had as Firestone Theatre continues its adventurous new season with the laugh-out-loud comedy Blithe Spirit.

There was some good singing, some good performances - particularly from Joshua Goldberg as Pilate and James Welch as Herod - plus some good staging ideas in the Playhouse production of Jesus Christ Superstar. So why was this production such a letdown - reflected in the tepid applause from the audience at the end?

James Welch, a past Director of Astrophysics at NASA, has completed his new book 'Project Intrepid': a gripping and enthralling story of an underground society of scientists opposed to space weapons conspiring with the KGB to stop the launch of a powerful new weapon into space.

Known for his multifaceted musical personality, composer/musician Wayne Horvitz ventures into progressively-inclined acoustic jazz and ultra-modern classicism in his latest album, Some Places Are Forever Afternoon. Written in honor of the iconic Northwest poet Richard Hugo (1923-82), Some Places Are Forever Afternoon is a full-length suite of 12 compositions influenced by different poems of Hugo's.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.

Kino Lorber announced today that the company is acquiring North American rights to WINTER IN THE BLOOD, from directors Alex Smith and Andrew Smith (THE SLAUGHTER RULE). The film, which is based on the landmark novel by James Welch, features Chaske Spencer (TWILIGHT SAGA), David Morse (THE HURT LOCKER, WORLD WAR Z), and Julia Jones (TWILIGHT SAGA). The film had its World Premiere in Narrative Competition at the Los Angeles Film Festival and has won several awards and played at over thirty film festivals. WINTER IN THE BLOOD will open theatrically at IFC Center, New York on August 20th with filmmakers and key cast members in attendance. Los Angeles screenings and additional markets will follow in September.
