Films, Installations Announced for 2014 Edition of New Frontier at Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Institute announced today the films and installations to be featured in the 2014 edition of New Frontier at the Sundance Film Festival, including the U.S. premiere of The Source (evolving) by renowned artist Doug Aitken and a 3D projection-mapping project by Klip Collective. The Festival takes place January 16-26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.

artnet Auctions is pleased to feature Color and Light: A Sale of Abstract Art, an auction of Contemporary Abstract artworks exploring color and light in their purest forms. The sale will feature glowing, visionary works by Contemporary artists such as Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, Kenneth Noland, Frank Stella, Ellsworth Kelly, Mary Heilmann, Josef Albers, Imi Knoebel, Sol LeWitt, Victor Vasarely, Julio Le Parc, and James Turrell. The works in the sale have estimates ranging from US$8,000 to 275,000.

Guggenheim Launches New Multimedia Mobile App In Celebration of James Turrell Exhibition

In conjunction with the exhibition James Turrell (June 21-September 25), the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum today launched a new mobile app that is free to download at guggenheim.org/apps, providing a unique educational platform for visitors to the Guggenheim and users around the world. The interactive app presents an array of content, including rich multimedia guides to current and past exhibitions; interviews with artists, curators, and exhibition designers; access to more than 1,200 works in the permanent collection; and explorations of the iconic building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The app has been designed to be accessible for visitors with disabilities.

Dior to Sponsor 2013 Guggenheim International Gala

Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation; Jennifer Blei Stockman, President, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation; and Raf Simons, Artistic Director, Christian Dior Couture, today announced Dior as the lead sponsor of the 2013 Guggenheim International Gala (GIG) which will be held on November 6 and 7, 2013. This year, the annual benefit event will honor artists James Turrell, whose exhibition opens at the Guggenheim on June 21, and Christopher Wool, whose retrospective will be presented at the museum from October 25 to January 22, 2014 and will be on view during the GIG.

NYC's Museum of Arts and Design Announces 2014 Exhibition Schedule

As the Museum of Arts and Design approaches its five-year anniversary at its Columbus Circle location, the museum is preparing to celebrate this milestone with a diverse roster of exhibitions and programs that emphasize its focus on materials, process, and contemporary creation. Featured exhibitions in 2013 include Fashion Jewelry: The Collection of Barbara Berger, Body & Soul: New International Ceramics, and Out of Hand: Materializing the Postdigital. A further highlight of the year is MAD's annual curated contemporary jewelry exhibition and saleLOOT 2013: MAD About Jewelry.

NY PHIL BIENNIAL to Run Through June 7 at Lincoln Center Campus

From May 28 to June 7, 2014, the New York Philharmonic will present the inaugural NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a kaleidoscopic exploration of today's music by a wide range of contemporary and modern composers that will showcase an array of curatorial voices through concerts presented with partners in venues both on and off the Lincoln Center campus.

The Ride Gallery Debuts Today to Bring Social Entrepreneurship to the Art World

The Ride Gallery celebrates the global launch of its pursuit to elevate underground artists working internationally at the intersection of high design, street art, and surf cultures. The Ride Gallery was founded by Sam Anderson, the recent Managing Director of the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia. After staging exhibitions at the SCAD Museum of Art in 2011-2012 with world renowned artists such as Fred Wilson, Bill Viola, and Yinka Shonibare, MBE, Anderson now launches The Ride Gallery to return to his own aesthetic roots in street art and surf culture.

Guggenheim Schedule of Exhibitions Through Spring 2014

This retrospective of Indian-born American artist Zarina Hashmi is the first major exploration of the master printmaker's career, charting a developmental arc from her work in the 1960s to the present and including many seminal works from the late 1960s and early 1970s, woodblock prints, etchings and lithographs, and a small selection of related sculptures in bronze and cast paper.

Art Institute Appoints Judith Russi Kirshner as Deputy Director for Education, Woman's Board Endowed Chair

The Art Institute of Chicago has announced the appointment of Judith Russi Kirshner as the museum's new Deputy Director for Education and Woman's Board Endowed Chair following a national search. In this newly created position, Kirshner will evaluate all of the museum's educational efforts, collaborations, and partnership programs, and work across the museum and the city to shape a future-oriented and holistic approach to education, outreach, programs, and audiences. Kirshner's appointment reflects a renewed and systematic effort on the part of the Art Institute to expand the museum's audience, enrich the experience of all visitors, and improve access to the museum's renowned collections and exhibitions. She will assume her new position at the Art Institute on March 1, 2013.
