Carnegie Hall's Beethoven Celebration Continues This Spring

This spring, Carnegie Hall's season-long Beethoven celebration continues with a vibrant series of events featuring the complete Beethoven symphony cycle with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra, the complete piano sonatas by nine leading artists, and the complete string quartets by Quatuor Ebène, as well as workshops, lectures, and more. Beyond Carnegie Hall, public programming and events, including music, dance, exhibitions, and lectures at prestigious partner organizations across New York City highlight the many dimensions of the great music master. Together, the Beethoven celebration features more than 70 programs, creating an extraordinary view of this revolutionary composer.

Top Teen Musicians From Across The Country Selected For The 2020 National Youth Orchestra Of The USA

Carnegie Hall today announced the names of the 115 outstanding young musicians selected from across the country for the eighth annual National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). The members of the 2020 orchestraa?"ages 16a?"19, hailing from 34 US statesa?"have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as being among the finest players in the country following a comprehensive and highly selective audition process. This summer's orchestra features 19 musicians who previously played with NYO-USA, as well as 24 musicians who gained experience through NYO2, a program for younger players ages 14a?"17. NYO-USA and NYO2 are offered free of charge, ensuring that all invited musicians have the opportunity to take part.

New Yorkers Come Together For 'All Together: Songs For Joy' in Zankel Hall

On Sunday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m., New Yorkers of all ages will take the Zankel Hall stage for All Together: Songs for Joy, a special evening of new and original songs inspired by a new adaptation of Friedrich Schiller's poem a?oeOde to Joya?? by former US Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith who has reimagined the original poem as a contemporary meditation on community, politics, and spirit.

Carnegie Hall Unveils 70+ Events for Beethoven Celebration

As the 250th anniversary year of Beethoven's birth approaches, Carnegie Hall announces a wider schedule of partner events by leading cultural institutions, complementing the Hall's programming as part of its Beethoven Celebration which includes an unprecedented range of performances by renowned artists exploring the composer's works and his transformative impact on music. The Beethoven Celebration presents one of the largest explorations of the great master's music in our time and marks the largest-ever exploration of one composer by Carnegie Hall, with 86 works of music performed by more than 58 artists and ensembles in New York City and beyond from January through June 2020.

GVO Will Present its Annual Holiday Concert

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) presents its annual holiday concert, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr and Associate Conductor Eric Mahl, on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The concert's theme is Partnerships and Collaboration and features a side-by-side performance with student musicians from the 3rd Street Music School. The family-friendly program opens with Vivaldi's Flute Concerto in E-minor, with the GVO's own Simon Dratfield as soloist. The students from 3rd Street Music School join the GVO for Karl Jenkins' Palladio. Next, Eric Mahl leads the orchestra in the March from Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges. Young violinist Ben Lerman performs the first movement of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D-major. The concert concludes with the finale of Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade, featuring the high school students from the 3rd Street Music School.

Carnegie Hall's NYO2 Returns To Miami Beach For Summer Residency

This July, following 11 days of intensive training in New York, the 80 members of NYO2-including extraordinary teen instrumentalists from across the United States-return to Miami Beach for their second annual summer residency with the New World Symphony (NWS), culminating in a performance at the New World Center on Saturday, July 27 at 8:30 p.m. led by conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto and featuring pianist Gabriela Montero. Throughout the Miami residency, which runs from July 22-29, NYO2 players will work with NWS Fellows, thanks to a continued partnership between Carnegie Hall and the New World Symphony. NYO2 first traveled to Miami Beach in summer 2018, which included a sold-out concert at the New World Center.

America's Finest Teen Instrumentalists Come Together For NYO-USA, NYO2, And NYO Jazz

This July, Carnegie Hall will bring together more than 200 of the finest teen musicians from across the country to perform as part of its three acclaimed national youth ensembles: the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz. All three ensembles will take part in an intensive training residency at Purchase College, SUNY before performing at Carnegie Hall and embarking on tours across the country and around the world, serving as America's dynamic musical ambassadors. In total, 222 musicians will take part in this year's program, representing 39 US states plus Puerto Rico.

Outstanding Teen Musicians Selected For NYO2 In Summer 2019

Carnegie Hall today announced the names of the 80 young musicians selected from across the country for NYO2, a three-week, intensive summer orchestral training program for outstanding American instrumentalists ages 14-17. The members of NYO2 2019-coming from 30 US states plus Puerto Rico-have been recognized by Carnegie Hall as exceptionally talented musicians who not only embody a very high level of artistry, but who also come from a wide range of backgrounds, representing a future for American orchestral music that includes communities which have often been underserved by and underrepresented in the field. 20 musicians are returning to NYO2 from previous seasons. In addition, 22 musicians who previously took part in NYO2 have been accepted to the 2019 edition of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA; ages 16-19) this summer.

GVO Performs Orchestral Brilliance Feat. George Curran In Brubeck's Prague Concerto

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) continues its 2018-2019 season with Orchestral Brilliance, led by Music Director Barbara Yahr, on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 3:00pm at All Saints Church. The program features New York Philharmonic bass trombonist George Curran as soloist in Chris Brubeck's Prague Concerto; Richard Strauss's lush, romantic Suite from Der Rosenkavalier; and Debussy's impressionistic Nocturnes led by Assistant Conductor Eric Mahl.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers, announces the top ASCAP holiday songs of 2018. According to an ASCAP analysis of streaming and terrestrial radio data, the hit classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” written by ASCAP songwriter Walter Afanasieff and pop star Mariah Carey, holds the #1 song position for the second year in a row.

New Musical FAT KID RULES THE WORLD to Have Developmental Presentation

Fat Kid Rules The World, (www.FatKidRulesTheMusical.com) a new musical with book and lyrics by Jay Falzone (Cooking With the Calamari Sisters), music and additional lyrics by Matt Gumley (Elf) and additional music by Evan Jay Newman (American Idiot International tour Musical Director), will be performed at invitation-only developmental presentation on Monday, October 29 at 7pm, Tuesday, October 30 at 11am and 3pm and Wednesday, October 31 at 11am at the Royal Family Performing Arts Space (145 W. 46th Street, 3rd Floor). Based on the novel by K.L Going, Fat Kid Rules The World is directed by Marc Eardley (Really Bad Things)and executive produced by Dancing Play Productions.

San Francisco Conservatory Of Music Announces 2018-19 Season

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the details of its 2018-19 season, the 101st year of the institution's existence. After celebrating the Conservatory's centennial last season, SFCM looks to the future in its curricular model combining performance, history, and the humanities in thematically linked programming. In total, the musicians of NYO-USA, NYO2, and NYO Jazz represent 36 US states plus Puerto Rico, reflecting both the highest level of musical talent as well as exceptional diversity found across the country. All three programs are free for all participants, ensuring that all aspiring young players who are accepted have the opportunity to take part.
