Marianna Pizzolato will make her Met debut as Isabella, the title character in L'Italiana in Algeri, which she now sings in all performances of Rossini's comedy at the Met this season. The Italian mezzo-soprano replaces Elizabeth DeShong, who has withdrawn from the run due to illness.

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the appointment of oboist Eugene Izotov to its faculty. Currently principal oboe at the San Francisco Symphony, Izotov has garnered critical acclaim for his interpretations of symphonic and solo repertoire. His appointment comes amid several recent additions to SFCM's faculty, including vocalists Deborah Voigt and Susanne Mentzer, as well as conductor Eric Dudley.
Carnegie Hall presents Orchestra of St. Luke's in three concerts this season in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, beginning on Thursday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. The series kicks off with the orchestra's long-time friend and collaborator David Robertson leading a program that includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92; and selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn featuring celebrated baritone Thomas Hampson. Also on the program is Brett Dean's Testament, a moving tribute to Beethoven's life and music inspired by his 1802 "Heiligenstadt Testament," the autobiographical manifesto in which the composer came to terms with the loss of his hearing early in his career.

Esteemed conductor Sir Simon Rattle concludes his two-season Perspectives series at Carnegie Hall this fall, leading four concerts with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Ensemble Connect, and the Berliner Philharmoniker. James Levine has returned to Ravinia for the first time since completing his music directorship in 1993 to prepare the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the Ravinia Women's Board's 50th Anniversary Gala. On Saturday, July 23, Levine will celebrate the 45th anniversary of his concurrent Ravinia and CSO debuts, by conducting Mahler's Second Symphony, the first piece he ever conducted at Ravinia-on June 24, 1971. Saturday's soloists will be soprano Ying Fang and mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill. A large video screen will be erected on the lawn to show the concert in detail.
