MasterVoices Presents ST. JOHN PASSION At Carnegie Hall, 2/9

CONTACT! To Return To National Sawdust In Brooklyn, 1/23

Entering its eighth season in 2016-17, CONTACT!, the Philharmonic's new-music series, will return to National Sawdust in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for two chamber programs featuring New York-area composers. This season of CONTACT!complements the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season celebrations, which highlight the Orchestra's rich history of commissioning and premiering important works and salute its hometown of New York City. Esa-Pekka Salonen, who is in the second year of his three-year tenure as the Philharmonic's Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence, continues his advisory role on CONTACT!.

Cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and Pianist Shai Wosner to Release All-Beethoven Disc, 12/9

Internationally-renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and pianist Shai Wosner release an all-Beethoven disc on the Onyx Classics label on December 9, 2016.  The duo's album, which was recorded live in London's Wigmore Hall, consists of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas and variations, to be released as a two-disc set.  Last season, Kirshbaum and Wosner performed Beethoven cycles extensively throughout the United States and Europe; the tour culminated with a performance of the complete cycle in London, recorded for Onyx Classics.  Mr. Kirshbaum and Mr. Wosner continue their performances of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano in March, with a two-concert series at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, followed by a performance with Chamber Music Sedona in Arizona.

Superstar violinist Augustin Hadelich joins the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) for a spectacular concert weekend led by Maestro Marcelo Lehninger and featuring one of the repertoire's most popular masterworks, Lalo's passionate Symphonie espagnole, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 20 4 p.m.

MasterVoices 2016 Fall Gala Raises More Than $200,000

MasterVoices raised over $200,000 at its 2016 Fall Galain support of its artistic and outreach programs on October 20. The event featured the New York premiere performance of Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek's opera 27 starring Metropolitan Opera mezzo Stephanie Blythe as Stein, Heidi Stober, Theo Lebow, Tobias Greenhalgh, and Daniel Brevik directed by James Robinson and conducted by MasterVoices' Artistic Director Ted Sperling with 150 singers of MasterVoices and Orchestra of St. Luke's. The evening featured Scenic Design by Allen Moyer, Costumes by James Schuette and Lighting by James. F. Ingalls.

Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys Presents F.J. Haydn's Oratorio THE CREATION

On Today, October 27, 2016 at 7:30pm the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys and Orchestra of St. Luke's present Haydn's The Creation oratorio in the opening concert of the 2016/17 season. Displaying Haydn's unfussy optimism, The Creation features some of the most memorable and life-enhancing music ever written. Soloists include soprano Ellie Dehn who sings the parts of Gabriel and Eve. Versatile tenor Thomas Cooley sings Uriel and bass Craig Phillips sings the parts of Raphael and Adam.

Metropolitan Opera Soprano Heidi Grant Murphy Performs Solo Recital

Soprano Heidi Grant Murphy, who sang major roles with the Metropolitan Opera for almost 25 years, returns to theChamber Music Society of Detroit series for a recital with pianist Kevin Murphy Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM.  The concert takes place at Oakland University's Varner Recital Hall, located on the Oakland University campus at 2200 N. Squirrel Road in Rochester.  The program includes songs and arias by Schumann, Debussy, Strauss, Puccini, Copland and Obradors.  Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students, and may be purchased by phone at248-855-6070 or online at www.CMSDetroit.org.

Cincinnati May Festival Names New Principal Conductor

Following an extensive, global search, the Cincinnati May Festival announced Juanjo Mena as the Principal Conductor for three years starting in the 2017-18 season. He will lead two performances at the 2018 May Festival and begins duties as the Principal Conductor Designate immediately.

MasterVoices to Present New York Premiere of 27 at New York City Center

MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale) will celebrate its 75th anniversary during the 2016-2017 season, beginning with the New York premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek's 27, specially adapted for MasterVoices, on October 20 and 21, 2016 at 8pm at New York City Center, 131 W. 55th Street, New York City.

Orchestra of St. Luke's Kicks Off Three-Concert Series at Carnegie Hall on October 13

Carnegie Hall presents Orchestra of St. Luke's in three concerts this season in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, beginning on Thursday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. The series kicks off with the orchestra's long-time friend and collaborator David Robertson leading a program that includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92; and selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn featuring celebrated baritone Thomas Hampson. Also on the program is Brett Dean's Testament, a moving tribute to Beethoven's life and music inspired by his 1802 "Heiligenstadt Testament," the autobiographical manifesto in which the composer came to terms with the loss of his hearing early in his career.

Magdalena Kozena to Make New York Philharmonic Debut This Fall

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Berlioz's Les Nuits d'ete, with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožena in her Philharmonic debut, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Today, September 29, 2016, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, September 30 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 1 at 8:00 p.m.

Francesca Zambello to Direct San Francisco Opera's DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN - Full Cast Announced; Summer 2018

San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock today announced the casting and schedule for the Company's summer 2018 presentations of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung). The four-opera cycle of Das Rheingold,Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung-widely considered the greatest and most ambitious work ever conceived for the lyric stage-will be presented in three complete cycles from June 12 through July 1, 2018.
